During Cleaning

So I have a quality cage townhome and when someone told me that while they clean out the pan they put in a polycarbonate clear sheet, like plexiglass to cover the wire on the bottom. Has anyone done this? Does it seem to work well?

I havent done the plexiglass, for being afraid of them chewing on it, but I have done it with marble and ceramic tiles. And yes, they worked fine.
