ok so my dog somehow got a cut on her lip. we are going to take her to the vet after my dad gets paid (friday). she keeps scratching at it. we've been cleaning it and putting neosporn on the cut but its not helping it much. we're pretty sure the vet will want to put a cone on her to keep her from scratching at it so it can heal but the problem is she's had cones before and she somehow knocks them off her head. then she tears them up. is there any alternatives to cones that would keep her from scratching at it? thank you in advance.

have you tried tying the cone to her collar? Dogs should not be able to pull off their collars, so attaching the E-collar to her regular collar should keep the cone on. There are a couple alternatives, but I'm told they do not work.

You should not be putting neosporin near a dog's mouth anyway as it is nephrotoxic if ingested. If you use neosporin it should be covered. I would use some blu-kote or some kind of artificial bandage.

The traditional cone is probably the only thing that will help. The other alternatives are more geared towards keeping the dog's face away from its rear end (like licking a spay incision) and not keeping its paws from its face. We sometimes tied cones to a body harness at the back of the neck and at the chest to keep them on the extra wiggly dogs.

okay thanks. i was wondering if it would attach to a harness because thats what she normally wears. okay i will try that thank you diana!
