Cheerios?

How often am I allowed to give my chinchillas plain cheerios? I've only given them one each so far, but is there a limit to the amount since it's not like a raisin? Should I just give them as treats every so often?

Anything that isn't hay or pellet is a treat, so that includes cheerios. Treats should be used sparingly. Some people say one treat a day, but I usually do 2-3 a week depending on what we have for treats, sometimes one a week. Right now we have rosehips, so they get them twice a week.

You are really going to hear varying opinions on how often to feed your chins treats. I love giving my chins cheerios as they are extremely plain and decently healthy. I normally give my chins treats every two days or so, but Cheerios are a different case - I usually will feed my chins cheerios once a day. PS- Raisins aren't the best, so try to avoid those!

A pinch of old fashion oats can go a long way, I put them in my hand and let them climb on me while they eat them.
