Calling Sounds?

Okay, so my bf got me a puppy last week for my birthday present. The puppy isn't allowed to go near the chin area and has learned to sit far far away only to watch. My chins however, have been making calling sounds every time my puppy is out of their sight. When the puppy is sitting there, the chins are quiet and resume their normal activities..... I"m at a loss for why this is happening...Anyone know why my chins keep calling when the puppy isn't there?

My guess is that since they cannot see the puppy but can still smell him, they are worried about where he is and that makes them nervous.
