Are the FN142 shelves okay?

Hi,

Are the shelves that come with the Critter Nation 162/ Ferret Nation 142 safe to use? They seem awfully hard....

They are safe to use if you cover them with fleece. They are plastic and could be chewed/eaten. It seems like most people make their own shelves out of wood.

I use fleece "pillowcases" on mine. Even the newer harder plastic can and probably will be chewed.
