Are excercise balls safe?

I have two and I want my hedgie to try it. I bought them for the chinchillas before I knew the risks. I want to use them rather than waste them.

I'm not a fan.

Hedgies excel at pooping and peeing when they run. Put that poop/pee slurry in a ball and... oh dear. The other thing people have cautioned against is that the holes made for ventilation are the perfect size/angle for catching and breaking a hedgie toe.

I understand about wanting it not to go to waste. You could use them for hidey-houses -- just put some fleece in there and set it in her cage (make sure it doesn't roll).

They make awesome beds! You just need to mount it or hang it so your hedgie can get in and out, as mentioned above, without the ball rolling around.

One other idea if Lila doesn't care for it as a hidey-house/bed and you still want to use them is to build a Deadmau5 head for yourself.

Too funny! I think that is a much better use for them than an animal exercise ball!

Now all I can think about is how I will attach the ears! My teenage son would love that!
