Apple wood question

So someone in my family has a nice apple tree. She doesn't want the dead branches, so I wanna use hem for the girls. Are dead branches safe? And it was sprayed over 20 years ago.

They have to be live branches.

I get branches from my in-laws when they prune their apple tree, but only the new growth. I wouldn't use wood that has moss or fungi growing on it - it should be nice and clean.

I don't think your supposed to use a tree that's ever been sprayed with anything. I thought I read that in a previous thread.
