Since I've moved home, I've been trying to look for a good vet for Chloe. So far the only emergency vets I've found in the area is Angell in Boston which would be like a 35/40 minute drive for me. Tufts would be about a 20 minute drive, but they don't have a chin vet there.

Besides that, there aren't many regular chin vets around either. I was wondering if anybody knew of any around me (I live in a small town next to marlboro and framingham. I'm about 12 miles from worcester)? I've found two vets that look decent on paper but haven't called or spoken to them. Kathryn Tuxbury in the Worcester VCA and Layne Handy in Lancaster VCA

Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks.

I used Dr. Sager in Acton, MA. I'm not sure how far that would be for you but he is AMAZING. I've only had to bring my chin in once but he was great with her. My family has used him for 20+ years, and he's just awesome.

Addendum: I just went on his site, and saw some troubling information that he's giving out regarding chinchilla diets...so I'm not sure.

Thanks for the info! I had heard of him but was wondering if there was anyone closer or personally recommended. Acton is probably 30-40 minutes away, which is certainly doable. A lot of vets say it's ok to give a small amount of greens, I don't know why. My last vet did, and I just told him I wouldn't be doing that--otherwise I liked him. I guess no one's perfect, right?

Yeah, I'm surprised. He's so on the level with everything else.

When I called Sager a few months ago they said they no longer had a chinchilla specialist. Was I misinformed?
And I'm with you on having trouble finding an emergency vet here...last year when my chin was very sick I called all of the places I had written down and no one had an exotic specialist currently working/"they just left for the night." It was very frustrating needless to say, as I thought I had a good list of places. I called the two Tufts vets, the two VCAs, Sager, Odd Pet Vet, and a few others.

The next time an emergency happens I'll probably call one of the hospitals in RI or NH first.

I know that this thread is a little old, but I have called Dr. Horowitz in Groton, MA with a question before. Lilly is not a patient there yet, and the Doc had no problem answering my question and putting my mind at ease. Her vet tech owns a chin, too. Very nice people and it is 10 minutes from us. They even have a Chinchilla on their website....how cute is that! ;)

Hope this helps!
