Another question on woods

Has anyone ever heard of the bark on an oak tree being safe for chinchillas? Also why aren't oak or maple trees on either list of safe/not safe? Just curious!

Certain oak trees contain high levels of tannin which is not safe for ingestion.

Okay, thank you. I found on a website that it said that the bark of an oak tree is safe, but I do realize anyone can post/have a website on the internet. But I would assume if the wood is toxic, so is the bark?

That list is confusing as heck. It's not a list it's a lecture. I'd much rather just have a list, and if they feel compelled to post a break down, do it to the side in an orderly fashion, not long line, short line, bold, italicized, colors, no colors. Bird sites tend to be a lot clearer.
