A few care questions

I just got 2 male chinchillas today from someone that is allergic to them. They are a little over a year old according to the man I got them from.
Here are my questions...

1. One of the chinchillas has an ear that is crinkled at the tip, could it be an old injury or is it normal occassionally?

2. Their fur is matted, what is the best way to take care of that?

3. Is there a way to know their exact age or a good guess?

1) The ear could be because of an old injury (some moms like the chew on their babies) or could be a malformation.
2) Good quality dust (blue cloud or blue sparkle) and some time. Maybe some manual pulling.
3) a little over a year old is the best you are gonna get without papers.
