Hello!

First, thank you for approving me and sorry that my first topic is already an very important one 🥺

My female Chinchilla gave birth to two Chinchilla Kits and they are 12 days old now. One of them (Milky) weights already 77g, while the other, smaller one (Lemon) only has 52g on the scale. I‘m very worried about Lemon, because I could just find the information that newborn Chins have a Weight between 30-60g, not a recommended weight for 1 week and above and I‘m not sure whether Lemon is already underweight or not (´;ω;`) It‘s a little slow compared to Milky and not so active, it seems to prefer to cuddle with it‘s mommy. She takes good care of both of them, but I started to hand feed Lemon with goat milk a little bit, because I‘m so afraid that it‘s too weak. Unfortunately, I‘m not really good at it, because Lemon wiggles around and tries to get away, while I‘m too scared to hold it a bit stronger that it can‘t run away. I also added a bit of baby cereal rice, but I don‘t want to hurt Lemon, so I really don‘t now how I can help it.

Can someone give me any advice please? 🙏🏻 I feel so helpless, I also tried to wrap it in a towel and feed Lemon, but he wiggles a lot.

Well from what I've read they should gain at least a couple grams a day once the mother's milk comes in. So even if they are smaller then their sibling so long as they are gaining they may be ok. This site might help with some info too https://www.cuddlebugchinchillas.com/breeding/basics/careofnewborns.html They also have a page on weighing chins that has a chart at the bottom https://www.cuddlebugchinchillas.com/care/weighing.html As well as a page on how to burrito wrap a chin, though a kit may be a bit harder since they are smaller. https://www.cuddlebugchinchillas.com/information/health/burrito.html

Thank you so much! I‘ll try the wrapping method with a small towel. First, Lemon was about 55g and now it‘s 52g, so it‘s losing weight while the bigger one, Milky, is already over 70g. I‘ll try everything I can do!

Hello! Let me start off by saying I hope you are doing well and I hope your babies pulled through and are thriving. I’m sorry I don’t have any information about your post but I do have a few questions since I seen you just went through a chin pregnancy yourself if you wouldn’t mind answering them. I believe my chin is pregnant right now. I have weighed her every now and then since I got her back in April and she’s been pretty steady at 23.4 ounces but on Sep 27th she was 25.6 ounces and yesterday (Oct 14th) she was 28.2 ounces so since Sep 27th (her first weight gain weigh in) she has gained a total of 4.8 ounces. Do you know around how far along a chin is when it starts gaining weight every day? I read online it was around day 42. I just wondered if that was your experience too. And do you know if at some point nearing the birth does she stop gaining weight. Also is it true that around day 90 her nipples will start coming up? Or do you know how far along she is when she starts sleeping all the time day and night? I’m trying to figure out how far along she is but I keep getting different info from different places so I figured my best bet would be to ask someone who has been through it. This is my first experience with a pregnant chin. I have hedgehogs and got through their pregnancies but I know nothing about a pregnant chin. I wanted to just make a post asking my questions but I’m new to this site and haven’t been able to figure out how to post yet. Thanks for reading and if you can answer any of my questions I would greatly appreciate it!!
