    Dumping over food dish

I had to stop using a coop cup because Henry would push it out of the holder every night. :) I hung the cup so the bottom touched the shelf and he still managed to get under it and overturn the cup. It was both amusing and annoying. Right now I'm using a heavy 2" square ceramic berry basket.

    Chin losing weight

Hello all, hoping for some advice. :) I adopted my male chin Henry about a year and a half ago from craigslist. I got him a larger cage (about double from his old super pet), switched him from kaytee with fruits/nuts to oxbow deluxe and am basically spoiling him rotten. I have noticed over the...

    Leaving chins alone for days

I've only had my chin Henry for a year and have only been away for longer than it takes to go to work once. I took an overnight trip with friends so I was gone a little over 24 hours. I loaded him up on food, hay and filled the water bottle but still called my mom to make sure she checked up on...

What are your chin's crazy nicknames

:hmm:My chin Henry has so many names it probably confuses the heck out of him. The most common variations are Fuzzbutt, dustbunny, pain-in-the-a**, Henry the destroyer ( because he wrecks his cage on a daily basis), poop machine, and love or loves. My dad calls him Henry the rat, lovingly of...

Chinnie Buddies-Do they work for you?

I got my boy a chin buddy and he mostly sleeps with it, either half on top or snuggled up to it. I have caught him climbing up on top of the chin buddy to nap a few times :) and sometimes he'll jump all around it and though he's trying to convince it to play with him.

    After play time

My Henry does this during playtime sometimes - he'll jump on the windowsill and just lie there looking out the window. It's really adorable.

To roam or not to roam

I keep my chin cage in my bedroom and this is also his playspace. My room just stays chin-proofed 24/7. So much easier this way. :) He gets a couple of hours of playtime every night (why yes we are spoiled LOL) but I'm so paranoid about him getting into trouble that he goes in the cage if I so...

    Purpose of popcorning

Just off the top of my head popcorning may be an evasive maneuver. I've noticed that when my chin popcorns he changes direction in mid-air and then runs very fast. That sort of maneuver may help a wild chin evade a predator, since most animals don't change direction that fast. If a chin popcorns...

    hungry hungry chinchilla!

I usually give my chin about 3 tablespoons of pellets every evening and that seems to be plenty. And of course a lot of hay.

    peeing on shelves

Quick update: I covered his shelves in fleece and the peeing has decreased significantly. :) Apparently he was just trying to tell me he wants something soft to run on. LOL

Where do your chins like to pee?

My Henry has a couple of ledges he really likes to pee on. The bottom of his cage has litter and he does use it but he also pees on a couple of shelves every day. I didn't know a chin could produce that much pee. :clap1: I've gotten really good with the vinegar water spray bottle, I thought...

    Greetings from the PNW!

Hi everyone, my name is Anastasiya and I live in the beautiful pacific northwest. I've always had cats but fell in love with chinchillas a few years ago. Four months ago I decided I was stable enough financially to finally adopt a chinnie. Now Henry my beautiful standard boy is living the high...

Taking Pre-orders for apple chewsticks sale

Hi Caroline, about how many pieces are in a pound? I only have one chin so I don't need a lot. Could you do a pound of mixed chew sticks and willow coins? I plan to be at the show so we may be able to save the shipping charge. :) Thank you

No where to turn, coping with loss

I"m so sorry about your Taro. I've only had my chin Henry for 3 months and he's already so precious to me. It's amazing how quickly we fall in love.

He's not particular, he pees all over :) and thank you for the advice, I'll try the fleece liners and think about changing bedding.

    peeing on shelves

So, I've had my male chin for three months and out of nowhere he started peeing on the shelves, not all the time just occasionally. Then I got him a bigger, sturdier cage and he is still peeing on the shelves just more frequently now. He is eating, drinking, pooping normally and is a sweetie in...
