    New design for FN 182?

My 182 is ~2 yrs old, and it does not have that extra bar. I also hate it. It does not seem sturdy, and to be honest I am a bit uncomfortable with the "plug and play" style as opposed to the screws they used in the 142.

    RIP Jack

I'm so sorry Michelle! That's such a bittersweet decision to have to make. And hard! Know that Jack will always be there for you when you need him! *hugs

Why does my chin poop SO much?!

Like your bra, or your shoes that have never been in the same room as a chinchilla! I swear they sneak out at night just to spread it around and laugh at us :tease:

    Now, Chinchilla Beds ....

Dawn is right, it will depend on the mood that particular chin is in at the moment. Sometimes they want to feel all cozy and safe, and will go for an enclosed box. Other times they just want to chill out and lay somewhere comfy where they can spread out and feel the breeze. Options are best.

No Chew Toys? Not even wood?

Yeah, I would keep the chews and get rid of the vet. If you don't give your chins safe chews, they will start to chew on things that really CAN do damage to their teeth -- eg cage bars and anything else they can wrap their little mouths around!

This chin is driving me insane!

Can Rufus see the other 2? Or is he just "calling into the void" so to speak? Perhaps moving them closer so he isn't so lonely?

    Potty Training with Fleece

Usually people who use fleece just line the bottom of the cage with it. That pretty much takes away the whole bother of pan training :)

lonely, bored, and maybe in need of a friend.

I'm going to have to agree with the others here, hun. Chins need a lot of attention, and just getting a 2nd chin isn't going to cut it for their socialization. Not to mention, you can't just get another chin and throw them in the same cage and call it a day and have everything be all sunshine...

What cage is suitable for a chinchilla?

If you don't ask questions, you won't learn anything :neener: What they're like as pets depends a lot on you, and the individual chin. If you spend a lot of time with them and train them, they can make great interactive pets. There are a few on here who have trained their chins to ride around...

Should you have a light on at night?

They don't need it, generally. Chins tend to be most active around dusk and dawn, when they will get the most natural low light. If your chin room doesn't have any windows, maybe put a low light on a timer for them so they get some sense of day/night.

    Persephone

Thanks everyone! She has started eating again, thank goodness! And she has been slightly more affectionate, but she's still the same ol' Rosie and when she's had enough she sprays me... no warning. It's kind of reassuring that she's not just in a depressed daze. We lost a lot of pets in the...

    Persephone

Last Tuesday morning I found my dear Sophie had passed during the night. She was my first Chin, my sweet girl. The atmosphere here isn't the same anymore. My poor Rosie (her cagemate for 6 years) is beside herself and barely eating. We cremated her Tuesday morning. It's so hard to walk into...

FN 182 and Bass Equiptment Pan

I moved one of my pans from my 142 into my stupid new 182 -- no prob, Bob.

At what point do you consider a chinchilla "sick"? Or "sick enough" to be put down?

I went through a similar situation with Astrid. She had an abscess, which led to a tooth falling out. After hand feeding her for weeks and watching her liveliness dwindle slowly from the stress and constant pain she seemed to be in, I made the decision to euthanize. I knew that things were...

    My Fleece Repels Water...

What detergent are you using? Some laundry detergents have a fabric softener in them already -- I stick with vinegar and baking soda to wash my liners. It gets them clean, with no nasty chemically stench (not to mention it's cheaper), and there's nothing toxic left on the fabric to block it's...
