    Sookie's foot looks infected

I expect she won't make it through the night. The only thing I could do within my means was to give her meds the vet prescribed, feed her and give her water and hope for the best. Unfortunately her health declined rapidly since a few days ago. She cuddled with me for a while this evening, and...

    Sookie's foot looks infected

I'm bringing her in tithe vet tomorrow right after work. At this poit she will take water via syringe and still loves her mealworms but she won't eat or drink on her own and I haven't seen fresh fecal matter in days. Her bottom looks swollen near her tail and she just falls to her side after a...

    Sookie's foot looks infected

This is basically what the vet just said I just called her. She says I should give her pedialyte or dill pickle juice for a few days to bump up her hydration and electrolytes. Also acidophilus should help. I'm just concerned because at this point she just lays in a corner and hasn't pooped in...

    Sookie's foot looks infected

So far she's been doing well and her foot looks healed but when we went to give her antibiotics this evening and took her out she vomited and was very still and wobbly. In concerned and not sure what to do now that it's so late at night. She's acting very strange.

    Sookie's foot looks infected

You are so incredibly helpful! Thank you. I will try calling this vet I just saw tomorrow morning to see if she'll actually want to answer my questions and If not I have a friend who takes her cats to a farm/exotic vet 30 mins from me, and she's going to ask if she's familiar with hedgies...

    Sookie's foot looks infected

Is there anything to put on the wound itself? She put some kind of glue on it and literally just gave me antibiotics and left. And this place was an hour and a half away it was the closest clinic that will see hedgehogs

    Sookie's foot looks infected

Unfortunately they had to amputate her big toe but the vet says she'll be back to normal after its healed in about two weeks. She gave me antibiotic to give her orally for two weeks, but no pain meds. I asked about them and the vet didn't seem too concerned as long as I kept the wheel out of the...

    Sookie's foot looks infected

Oops for them. I get out of work in a few hours and will be drivin straight to a vet and ordering new wheels for my babies so nothing like this can happen again

    Sookie's foot looks infected

Yeah im not seein any cuts and still haven't found any threads wrapped around her foot so a broken toe Is actually a good guess. Luckily the infection doesn't look like its spreading further but I'm still a very worried hedgie mom. I've been meaning to replace her wheel for awhile now since I...

    Sookie's foot looks infected

And yes her cage is fleece bedding and I will be checking for all signs of potential injury points in her cage

    Sookie's foot looks infected

She's been a little restless but didn't go to the bathroom last night likely because she's trained herself to mostly go on the wheel which I took out. I looked and didn't see anything on her foot but when I clean it and put ointment on it I will check again. Unfortunately I live in an area where...

    Sookie's foot looks infected

I have Sookie a bath a few days ago and noticed her big toe on her back foot looks red and inflamed. I made sure she had no strings or hair attached and rinsed her foot thoroughly and put some peroxide on it. Today it looks worse. Definitely darker and she hasn't been running on her wheel. I put...

Interested in a Michigan hedgehog show?

I would be interested in going, depending on how close to Indiana it would be. I can justify a 4-5 hour trip from NWI?

    WHS? Video included

I would trust their advice. I've seen video and have done some research on initial stages of WHS, and this looks more like limping or something other than WHS.

    New unsocialized hedgie help

Unfortunately everyone beat me to some of the best advice I could give! I just wanted to note though that I also have a grumpy hedgehog (thus, named Grumpy) and he was simply born that way. I raised him from a baby and paid lots of attention to him, tried to bribe him/coax him with treats, play...

    Greedo's first bath

haha how cute! it's so funny to see them trying to climb out. both of my hedgies aren't bath lovers, but Greedo did very well!

    Loss of limb use

I'm so sorry to hear that! I don't have any experience with WHS, but I've looked at pages where owners construct maze-like constructions to help them move around and get some exercise. You may want to look into something like that while he's not totally immobile. I thought WHS started in the...

    Holding a hedgehog

Sookie (the friendly one) can't sit still unless she is hiding under something. Being underneath or hiding inside of something is the most comfortable for her, whether she's sleeping on my lap or wandering around, or in her cage. Usually when I pick her up she is immediately scrambling but that...

    Age to buy hedgehogs

Ask if the pet store houses male and female hedgies together. You don't want to end up in the situation I ended up in, where the female I bought randomly had two babies a month later. It'll be very stressful as a new owner and complications definitely can arise. I would also ask them lots of...

I feel like his cage isn't 'fun' enough

Luckily, the good thing about fleece is that it's extremely easy to clean up, economical because you can reuse it after washing, and easy to disinfect in hot water. My hedgie's poo sometimes falls off the wheel and gets on the fleece, but by morning it's very easy cleanup!
