    Chin sitting advice

We have someone come over and feed and water the chins. We usually get and older teenager or someone a little bit older. We have a few people in the area we can rely on.

    Chins in Idaho?

Narcissus on this board is in Idaho, I don't know where. When I was looking to get a chin i talked to her on the phone and she was a fountain of good info on chins. I got one of my chins from Craner Chinchillas, they were in Idaho at one point. He may be in Utah now, though.

Jinx and Jazmyn. Help with odor!!

I have also been using vinegar to wash the cage pans down when I change the liners once a week and that has helped. I also put a little in when washing the fleece. The smell in pet urine usually comes from ammonia (a base) and vinegar (an acid) neutralizes the ammonia. I also have terry cloth on...

    Hello From Texas

Welcome! There is a wealth of knowledge already posted, the search tool is pretty good. If you can't find anything after a search on a subject you just need to post. People on the forum are friendly and love to share knowledge. I've had a few questions answered already, like finding a good...

When's the best time to adopt a chin from a breeder?

Both breeders I have talked to and bought from recommended getting chins at least eight months old, that way the chin is grown enough so you know what you are getting. Kits may be cute but they are more hassle.

Can chins reach through CN cage bars?

I have a CN type cage and yes they will grab stuff outside the cage if it is close enough. One of my chins has actually figured out how to climb a little ways from the top shelf to the top of the cage and will hang there for a few seconds.

    Help!!

Just noticed from your first post you're from Utah. Let me know which vets you've seen, i'm from Utah and haven't been to see a chinchilla vet yet, but would like to know the two you went to so I can avoid them. Our regular vet (we have two cats) recommended one for chinchillas and I was going...

    New Chinparent Here!

Congratulations! Chins have their own personalities. One of my chins is always on the go, doesn't mind being picked up. Loves to jump, will jump from knee to shoulders to head over and over, can jump from the floor to the counters in the bathroom. But she does not like to be held standing still...

What age did you get your Chinchilla?

I checked with two breeders before getting my second and they both recommended getting a chin that is 8 months, they have grown a little more and have a personality and you know what you are getting with them being 8 months.

    Separate sleeping areas?

I have two bonded female chins in a multilevel critter nation cage. I have two houses in there but they normally both sleep on top of one of the houses. Or one will sleep on top and the other to the side. It's just different chin personality.

    New Chin

I got lucky, they get along great. The only problem I have is when they both want to do something they will both crowd around. Like dust baths, they both don't fit in the dust bath very well. They will both crowd in and then realize they can't move. Then one will have to get out and they take...

    Quiet Chin?

My first chin was totally quiet, unless she barked and didn't want to be picked up. Now that I have two they will chatter to each other quite a bit.

Sideways ceramic pot planter? Where ?

I usually go to a second-hand store to get ceramic items. (Like Salvation Army). I usually find something good for a couple dollars for food containers, play places, potties, etc. Just make sure they get thoroughly washed before using. If you don't want to go there I second the other comments...
