    Fur Biting Issue

I have three pet chinchillas. Gizmo (M-6y.o.), Charlie (F-5y.o.), and Pebbles (F-2.5y.o.). Gizmo is in his own separate part of the cage, and Charlie and Pebbles (mom and baby) are in the other section. About 5 months ago I began to notice my girls have been ripping their fur out for some...

Is this too much for a neuter?

Oh and thanks for the help!

Is this too much for a neuter?

I understand! I just feel bad because my boy loves his partner so much. They've had to be separated after two births and they are completely inseparable after they're put back together. Never had an issue rebounding. He seems so depressed all by himself. Not sure what I'm gonna do. I don't mind...

Is this too much for a neuter?

I'm ready to get my boy chinny neutered so I don't need to worry about more babies while I'm in college. As much as I enjoy it, it takes too much time.. My vet here in Dutchess County of NY is asking for about $350-$400 for neutering my male chinny. Do you think that price is high or reasonable...

    Drooling? Choking?

Well she just had a vet visit May 8th and the vet said her teeth were fine.. It just scared the begeezus out of me. Because if she were choking, there is nothing I know how to do.

    Drooling? Choking?

Yesterday out of no where my chinchilla started drooling, and pulling at her open mouth with her paws and drool was just pouring out. It lasted about 2 minutes and then she stopped, took a dust bath and was fine. Was she choking or something??

    Chinchilla Sounds Resource

My chinchilla was making a noise last night that worried me.. It sounded like a series of little sneezes followed by a short wheezing after each one. I was going to take him to the vet today, but now he's not making the noises anymore.. Weird..

Moving 6 hours away from home

In August i'll be transferring to a new college and getting an apartment up by Rochester, NY. I'll be bringing my two chinchillas Gizmo and Charlie with me. :cute: I was just wondering, what are some things I can do to make the ride easier on them? Six hours is a LONG time, but it has to be done...

    Driving with Chins

I don't think it would do any harm. She may be stressed out for a couple hours but once she's back home in her own cage she'll be just fine. It's a pretty long drive for me to get my chinnies to the vet, and they were fine. Just don't put the two in the same cage. I've read somewhere that having...

    Chins and cats?

I have two cats, one never goes in my room where I have my chinchillas and the other practically lives in there. The one that is always in the room couldn't care less about the chinchillas and vice versa. But my cats were there first, and they're both also pretty old and kinda worn out from...

For those of you who use collars on your females...

I'm just curious.. What are the collars purpose? I'm not a breeder so I don't know much about collars although I hear them popping up in conversation on here once in a while. Just don't know what they're used for though

    Litter Box use?

I tried the pan and it didn't work for mine.. but i've been putting a small wee wee pad on the bottom of the cage for the past three or four months (like the ones you use for puppies) and my chinchillas primarily use that as their designated potty spot now, with the occasional accident somewhere...

How to stop him from chewing?

My first chinchilla was such a good boy and never chewed on anything, but after I got him a friend they turned into little terrors. They would go under my bed and eventually ripped open the box spring and would hide in there! It drove me crazy, so I put cardboard all around my bed to stop them...

Old chin owner with a new chin issue

That makes me angry too.. she clearly has no idea what she's doing with the chinchillas. I think in her mind she doesn't think she's doing anything wrong. I know I yell at my mom ALL the time for feeding my chinchillas the dried bananas (she'll give them like three in a row) and i'll catch her...

    Fur biting, listlessness, and neutering..

I'm sure some of you read my post about me having two "boy" chinchillas but then one turned out to be a girl, had the baby and it died. Well as soon as she started giving birth I separated mom and dad. And now mom seems depressed sitting by herself and dad is biting his fur! I think he's...
