    Diagnosed with Malo

Vicki passed away on Thanksgiving day peacefully. I don't think she was in pain because she was on Metacam and was behaving absolutely normal the day before. It could be just that it was her time. We didn't know how old she was when we rescued her and her cagemate 9 years ago. We are going...

    Diagnosed with Malo

Hi Lan, long time no chat. I remember we PM'ed back and forth back in 2010 when I lost my white Mosaic, Polly. Dr. Greek could not find anything wrong with her neither, but she eventually left us after losing a ton of weight. It is very devastating to see one of your beloved pets suffer yet...

    Diagnosed with Malo

Dawn, I didn't know root elongation and malocclusion are two different things. Vicki, my chin, seems to be just like yours. Was your chin on pain meds at all before the jaw was broken? What signs do I need to watch out for when the roots break the jaw? I want to minimize her suffering at...

    Diagnosed with Malo

The thing is, she is not acting much differently from before. We cannot tell that she is in pain at all. We brought her to the vet 3 weeks ago because she was drooling a little and had an eye infection. The exotic vet was on vacation, so the other dr trimmed her front incisions and put her...

    Diagnosed with Malo

One of my chins was just diagnosed with pretty severe malo last night. In the xray, it is very obvious that the roots are going everywhere. Two of the bottom ones are extremely long that they might be poking out pretty soon. As soon as I saw the xrays, I immediately started crying because I...

    Evaporative Air Cooler?

I am in search for a portable air conditioner for our new chin room, and came across these evaporative air coolers. Will these work for chins? I would really like something that doesn't involve mounting anything on a window. If you have any suggestions, please share with me. Thanks.

    Hay

Those are seed heads. My chins love them. No need to pull them out.

    Still drooling...

Thank you, ticklechin. I have written on her facebook. Hopefully she will reply soon. I just gave Polly a piece of dried papaya cuz it is the only thing she is willing to eat on her own at this moment. While she was eating it slowly, I saw big droplets of saliva coming down from her paws...

    Still drooling...

ticklechin, Monrovia is about one hour away from me. Could you please find out the name of that dentist? I wonder if I can send him/her the xray first before driving out there.

    Still drooling...

I was reading Sandi's thread on her CJ. http://www.chins-n-hedgies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13404 CJ's xrays seemed quite similiar to Polly's, aren't they? I am thinking about getting Polly's molars completely filed down to the gumline as well. Her condition can't get any worse than what...

X-rays Here are the xrays. Do you see any abnormality?

    Still drooling...

I have two x-rays done in the past two months, by two different vets. No overgrowth in roots. Just surface problems. I will ask for a copy of the xrays and post them in the next couple of days. Thanks, Riven.

    Still drooling...

Sorry for posting another thread on my Polly. Her condition is not getting better after several visits to two different vets and teeth filing. The last time she went to Dr. Greek, I asked for another x-ray. Nothing was abnormal, no spurs nor infections. Dr. Greek said that he was puzzled as...

    Excessive drooling

Just talked to Dr. Greek on the phone. He told me that metacam dose for rodents is 10x higher than that for cats and dogs. I don't know if I should believe him. I guess I will need to do extensive research on this before I give more to Polly. He thinks that it might be normal for Polly to...

    Excessive drooling

The bottle I got says 1.5mg/ml which is the regular concentration for dogs I believe. With the 0.4ml I am giving daily and Polly being 600g, the dose is 1cc per kg body weight which is 10x times higher than recommended.
