Hi guys,
I found two petitions requesting legal ownership of pet hedghogs in the state of GA. The links are below:
http://www.change.org/petitions/georgia-and-pennsylvania-legislature-allow-pet-hedgehogs...
I'll file this away for future use when I have chins. I didn't know you could use rosehips as a treat. Are they a treat, or can they be used as part of a food mix (not sure how expensive that would be)?
Darling! I'm curious if the dwarfism in Chins is usually an autosomal recessive or dominant trait? If recessive, it could certainly "hide" in a line for a long time before popping up again. If dominant, then in this case it most likely is due to a spontaneous mutation (which is actually quite...
I don't own any hedgehogs at this time, hopefully in a year or so when I can move to a location that allows them.
But I do have a question:
How many hedgehogs of the same sex can live together peacefully provided enough habitat space? Are they best as singles or pairs, or can the live in same...
Welcome to the forum! :)
About the rescue chin with some problems...Are the problem eye and problem foot on the same side? If so she might have had a minor stroke at some point. But I agree that ruling out the possibility of fracture or infection to be a good idea. And missing her tail! Does...
Welcome! I lived in Hawaii for two years while getting my master's degree in Human Nutrition (UH-Manoa). I didn't even know Chins were legal there until a few weeks ago. I had assumed they weren't since virtually every other "exotic" pet is illegal three.
Anyway, that is interesting about your...
Maybe it is a recessive trait. Two chinchillas who each carry one gene for the corkscrew tail have normal tails themselves but have 1/4 chance of offspring that show a corkscrew tail. The offspring that show the corkscrew tail would carry both mutations for the tail and if paired with a...
I know this is an old thread, but I'm glad I found it. This is good to know. I give Bamboo to my gerbils and they go crazy for it. I actually trim it the green shoots and thin baby stalks, rinse with water. I also bake in the oven at 200 degrees (F) for an hour just to make sure there's no germs...
So I did a search of this topic after it was suggested (don't know why I didn't think of that in the first place) and have to chime in.
I'm also thinking about getting VPI pet insurance for my future owned chin(s). Having read some of the other threads I don't entirely agree with the general...
So what is the best way to figure out if I would be allergic to a chinchilla or not before ever actually getting one? I don't know anyone personally with a chinchilla.
Does anyone have a pet insurance plan on their chinchillas? My dog is covered by PetPlan and it has certainly payed off. I'm wondering what people's experiences have been with Chinchilla vet bills, and if pet insurance would be a good idea? (I don't have chins yet, I'm thinking for the future)...
Thank you all for the welcomes and advice! Maya is very sweet, but I agree having her loose at the same time the chin(s) would be loose is something that would just be foolish. I had a gerbil get loose on the floor once and the first thing I did was lead Maya into my bedroom and close the door...
