My girlfriend wants to know if male chins will continue to try to mount their females even if they are already pregnant? Or will they back off of it if they know the female is with chin?

I'm not sure-seeing as I am not a breeder...but my guess would be that they would still try. Males don't only mount the females when they are in heat, so I don't see why they wouldn't mount if the female was with kit.

Like I said, this is my guess-so if I'm wrong someone please clarify-I just don't see any reason why they would stop

Eh, some do, some don't. You will definitely see more of that activity just before delivery as they try to breed back the female though.

Tunes is right, some do, some don't. My older males would be pretty chilled out until I pulled the female, and my younger ones (less than 2 years) would periodically mount their females (nothing like an actual mating though, just a mount, female cacks, and he would let off) This wasn't always the rule, though.

I've never seen a male go after a female like she was in heat when they were pregnant. I've seen some mating sessions, you definitely see a difference with that and regular mounting.

You will definitely see more of that activity just before delivery as they try to breed back the female though

Females can come back into heat very soon after a delivery, correct? I'd never attempted a breedback - so I've don't have any experience with this.

Some females go into heat BEFORE they deliver, and so you'll see mounting around that time. Tho some males dont have much for manners and will try to mount a female no matter what - just like some human males LOL

Thank you all for your responses so far. We have been waiting for my girlfriends chin to give birth for a while now. When she saw the male trying to get a little action she was wondering if she was even pregnant at all.

I would move the male to another cage, to give Momma chin a break. Otherwise she'll mostly likely end up pregnant again before she even gives birth to this litter. And that can take alot of out any female animal, nursing one litter while her body is also trying to provide for another inside her... Not to mention the stress of it all.

Just my own thoughts of course, but I felt obliged to share them.
