Kits eye issues

i have a kit that was born yesterday and was fine (bright eyes and bushy tailed). i just went to the chinchilton to check on the chins and saw that his eyes were "stuck" shut. I wiped his eyes with saline solution and gently separated the lids. the eye lids look a little red and irritated. what should i do other than what i am doing? should i medicate? if so, what should i use? how often should i clean and open the eyes? any other advice?

any idea why this would happen?

Just keep them clean for a couple of days - the bloodshot should go away! Could be a number of things, but wait and see if it clears up. Usually does.
