Is this safe for a chin

Being ranchers we don't use toys and such in our cages, but why don't you look in the chin supplies section on here. There are lots of suppliers who make stuff for the cages that you know are safe. Just a suggestion.

Well, my guess is it'd be okay, but there's no gaurantee when buying from Petsmart. I'm sure you could find something just as good from a member on here =P Essentia makes some pretty nifty toys.

It is chin safe, but I know that someone on here sells basically the same thing (without the bell that you'll probably end up removing anyways). I would just double check the wood. I know with my chins, they don't chew on wood from pet stores nearly as much as they do from ppl on here. I think it's a "being stale" issue:sick:

"General" rule of thumb is if the wood is safe for a bird, it's safe for a chin.

I bet you can get a bigger one on ebay. A few thoughts: (compare prices obviously before buying, but macaw toys usually weigh quite a bit, so more bang for your buck)

Like the others have said, if it is safe for a bird then it is also chin safe. But as I have learned, not all products are actually as safe as they claim to be. For example, a lot of chin products sold aren't actually safe for chins at all!

Cat75 sold me 40 pieces of gorgeous drilled pine blocks for an incredibly small amount of money and my hard-core chewers are loving the toys I made with them. You could make 5 toys like that for the same price (or less) and you will be sure that the material is safe :). Just a thought.

I think it's Cat75 on here that sells the same thing for about 1/2 the price!

another interesting fact you just taught me, thanks. I knew some bird stuff was safe for chins, but I didn't know that it was a general rule of thumb. Thanks. You are too smart!!! :)

ANd it's good to know in case I ever want something different for my chins but want to make sure it's safe.

Just one thing though that I want to say to the poster of this thread, beware of what Petstore people say. You got lucky this time, but alot of times they don't know squat.

I like making my own toys and having the parts to re-fill them...chins like them better and you can mix and match the parts:dance3:

Another thing to keep an eye on with bird toys is whether they used hardwoods or not. Most hardwoods aren't chin safe, but iirc can be used with (at least some) birds. I tend to buy large parrot toys (the Bamboozler's line is awesome) and pick them apart for smaller toys that last for months.
