When you buy an animal the animal is yours. If you decide to show it the rules state that you must enter the animal with the original ranch brand on your entry sheet only. The pen tag that is on the animals cage should have your name on it. You are entitled to all awards the animal wins at the show except you cannot receive breeder points towards a breeder award for that animal. The only way anyone at the show will know you didnt breed the animal yourself is if you go around and tell everyone. The animal would be shown by you, prepared and groomed by you, and would be representing your name at the show to everyone in attendence. Therefore, you do not need to ask permission to show from original owner, nor should you feel guilty about showing your own animal that you bathed, prepared, and combed for the show. It is a positive for young ranchers to have the experience of attending a show and learning more about the animal they purchased as well as supporting the chapter or organization that is hosting the show that needs animal entry fees to continue to be able to pay for and put on the shows. There is always experienced ranchers at the shows that will be glad to answer questions and assist you in all the aspects of the show. Participation is what the organizations need most and should never be discouraged by any member breeders. We were all new and unknowing at one time too and most all of us long time ranchers understand that and want to help out the newer young ranchers that come to shows for the first time.
