Allergy / Respiratory Problems due to Dust

Dawn, I haven't been able to sleep in my own bedroom for over a month. Even weekly dusting would still cause allergy problems. As mentioned, my boyfriend has taken over dust baths and cage cleaning, but I still can't be in the same room as the cage overnight. I wake up with my skin crawling...

Allergy / Respiratory Problems due to Dust

I haven't used those masks yet, but I did start wearing a scarf wrapped over my nose and mouth when respiratory issues started kicking in from the dust. Probably not as effective, but it was free to grab from my closet. No, it was not seasonal. This has been a long term issue that recently...

Allergy / Respiratory Problems due to Dust

Typically two or three times a week. On humid days more often. I'm not sure if I'll need to increase or decrease that amount with the dust alternative. It should be the same, right?

Allergy / Respiratory Problems due to Dust

Whimsy's dust bath alternative arrived with a wonderful sample pack of assorted treats. So far the chinchillas love the treats, but it looks like they will need some time to get used to the dust alternative. It's a white powder that has a definite mineral odor to it that I can't quite...

Allergy / Respiratory Problems due to Dust

I tried a rather expensive Oreck Air Filter awhile ago, but the dust made the darn thing send out large crackling sparks. Less than a week later I returned it fearing that it might become a fire hazard. I haven't tried keeping an air purifier in the same room as the chinchilla cage since. I...

Allergy / Respiratory Problems due to Dust

Hello. I've been inactive on these forums for a long time, but I could really use some advice. I have three male bonded chinchillas that share a large cage which is kept in my bedroom. About a year ago I noticed I started having slight allergies to chinchilla dust (Blue Cloud). It wasn't a...

Any one hear of this online chinchilla store?

I ordered from them a few years ago. Always very nice. The only toy I'd stay away from is the great Popsicle toy as it splinters badly once the chins start chewing it. I had to take it out of the cage quickly.

    We interrupt these cuddles...

Hi Sandi! Good to see some familiar faces! I haven't really posted since I lost Ash last year, but my three chins have been doing great. Life has been very good, just busy. Hmm, it was working. Trying a different link:

    We interrupt these cuddles...

Life has been so busy and I haven't posted in ages, but this was just too funny not to share! I have three boys: two calm well natured chinchillas, Cloud and Jett, and one crazy spoiled social butterfly, Leon, that thinks the world revolves around him. This happens ALL THE TIME! Me: Awww Jett...

Sudden loss of appetite - Please assist

Ash passed away at 7:27pm. I was on the way back to the vet after meeting Sandi to check up on him and got a call that he had taken a turn for the worse and it was time to discuss different treatment options. I told them I was already on the way and would be there shortly. They called two...

Sudden loss of appetite - Please assist

I'm wondering if it might be possible to bring him home tonight and continue to force feed, provide meds, and follow stasis protocol at home. I know how to towel wrap and handle chins properly and went through a long healing process with a rescue I took in last year. I just worry that he might...

Sudden loss of appetite - Please assist

Ash made it through the night, but he's still in very bad shape. I've been calling the vet every few hours for updates. They said he's very lethargic and they've been able to force feed him a little bit but he won't eat on his own yet. He passed 7 stools last night with some difficulty and...

Sudden loss of appetite - Please assist

Ash is staying over night at the animal hospital. From his xrays and exam, he has end stage GI stasis with bad gas build up in his lower track, but we don't know what caused it. Vet said he was hiding it very well and gives him about a 60% chance of making it through the night.. started him on...

Sudden loss of appetite - Please assist

    1) It's been 65-72 degrees in the room the last few days. 2) No, they all get along and have multiple bowls and hay bins in the cage to share. They've never fought over food. He isn't even trying to approach the food though. 3) He won't eat hay, pellets, anything. I put in fresh pellets...

Sudden loss of appetite - Please assist

One of my chinchillas has a sudden loss of appetite. My chins normally eat with gusto and clamor for an occasional mini wheat treat, but he won't touch any food today and just wants to sleep. I inspected him fully and there's no apparent injuries and was showing normal stool dropping earlier...
