Best treatment bath dust mix for treating and preventing ringworm?

I came across this post by Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue about using Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth (DE) mixed with bath dust for treating ringworms (reference: see "Fungus"). I also read that some people add sulfur powder (reference: click here) or over the counter antifungus foot powder (as...

Uneven poop sizes and no poops during the day. Is that normal?

Dear Amethyst, I will try out Oxbow's supplement. :D Many thanks again for the very useful tips. Just a quick question from my other post about what DIY fleece items: what threads do you use for sewing? Cotton or polyester?

Uneven poop sizes and no poops during the day. Is that normal?

My chin's skin is not red where the flakes are found in his coat and fur looks normal around that area too. If it is just dry skin, should I put bag balm on him (how to get through his fur to just apply on his skin would be another question here)? Many thanks :giggle:

    Potty pads instead of bedding?

Dear Amethyst, Thank you very much for your advice. The wood listed in this link is pine (as the seller himself uses it for his rabbits). I think it should be safe for a chin then. 😄

Uneven poop sizes and no poops during the day. Is that normal?

Hmm, I see. I will take him to see a vet immediately after lockdown is lifted here. On another note, I noticed some flakes (almost like human dandruff) underneath his coat behind his ears. Is that something I should worry about too? Could this be fungal? He had a little bit of flaky nose so I...

    Potty pads instead of bedding?

Dear Amethyst, I noticed when I put a fleece pad in my chin's cage along with his potty pan, he seems to just randomly pee everywhere on the fleece pad and around his cage and no long pee in his pee pan. After I remove the fleece pad, he is back to only peeing in his pee pan. I read some...

Uneven poop sizes and no poops during the day. Is that normal?

Dear Amethyst, thank you for your reply. My chin seems to be quite normal. Active during playtime and when awake, eating pellets and hay, drinking about 25ml a day. I had been feeding him some probiotics for a week and more but his poops still remain big & small and only at night. Is there...

What filling/stuffing material is safe for a DIY fleece pillow for chinchilla?

Thank you, Amethyst and Sage12. What type of threads do you use to sew your pillows and other fleece items? I saw online that some people use polyester SEW ALL thread and some just use cotton threads. Does the thread material matter? Thank you.

What filling/stuffing material is safe for a DIY fleece pillow for chinchilla?

I saw a lot of Etsy fleece pillows are filled with cotton or poly-fil. Are these materials safe? If not, what else is a safe option? Thank you.

    Potty pads instead of bedding?

I am thinking to remove the potty pan (currently filled with recycled paper bedding) completely with fleece potty pads (the rest of the cage floor will be lined with tiles). Is that recommended?

Uneven poop sizes and no poops during the day. Is that normal?

My chinchilla seems to have a timed scheduled to his pooping. He only poops at night (after around 9pm) and no pooping at all during the day. I also found his overnight poops vary in sizes. Some are only a few millimetres long, some are over 1 centimetre long. Is that normal? Thank you.

Heat treated pine shaving safe for chinchillas?

Thank you very much, Teresa and the HedgeHerd :D Very informative. (y) I will switch to fleece pads after CB then. Better for sustainability too. 😄

Heat treated pine shaving safe for chinchillas?

Seller mentioned it is heat-treated and not kiln dried. I also wrote to the brand manufacture but no reply yet. :)

Heat treated pine shaving safe for chinchillas?

I saw a brand called Plospan which offers particularly dust-free heat-treated pine shavings for animal bedding. The seller did state this brand use heat treatment for its wood but didn't state whether it is kiln-dried. Is it safe for a chinchilla...

My 9 months old male chinchilla is really light weighted. Is this normal?

Thank you Amethyst 😄I will go find some other hay (fingers crossed I can find them now!) and hope the little guy will enjoy munching more. My little guy seems pretty active and normal at the moment. Thank you for all the valuable advice. Really calmed my nerves before I can get him to see a vet.

My 9 months old male chinchilla is really light weighted. Is this normal?

Thank you again, Amethyst 😊 (y) 👏 I do have a play tent like the one you mentioned. But my little guy seems to dislike it compare to running wild in my living room. I guess it's a trade-off for his happily-running-wild and his safety. I kept a close eye on his hay intake today and found him...

My 9 months old male chinchilla is really light weighted. Is this normal?

Thank you very much for your reply. Very informative. (y):giggle:👏 I will keep the A/C to a lower temperature for him. For his hay, I was informed by his seller that 1st cut is the best due to the stems are better for grinding his back molars. I don't think my little guy specifically prefers...
