    Let's talk poo!

Korsini: unrelated, but chins under six months are reccomended to not have out of cage time. They burn calories they need to use to grow.

I chase my chin every day. Should I be worried?

It is instinctual to view anything that may seem large as threatening, they are prey animals. You should not let your chin run about freely in your house, especially if its not entirely chin proofed. It does not matter if he likes to run around the house if it can compromise his safety. He might...

    chinchilla hair loss

Assuming they're chewing their fur, it could be either one. But you said it appeared to be chewed off in rows? Pictures may be helpful :) Fur chewing could be caused by stress, so if they lived in unsuitable conditions in the classroom, and bad or stressful experiencesd could contribute to the...

    Bonding two young chins

It could be several months for them to bond, maybe not even at all. Be prepared if that were to happen. Also, did you quarantine the new chin before introducing them? Some people use the cage-in-cage method, putting one chin in a smaller cage and put the smaller cage in the larger cage. Another...

    Vitamin C & Calcium

Hello! I'm not sure about the supplements, I'm hoping someone more experienced will answer that, but the fact that your chin won't eat hay probably contributes to the problem- hay is an essential part of a chin's diet. And I'm pretty sure chins can't eat veggies... Hopefully somebody more...

    Bigger cage?

I second the Ferret Nation- it's very highly recommended. The bars are very strong, but are only suitible for chins over six months of age (the bar spacing may be too large for younger, and they could escape). Yes, the Critter Nation is the same size, but the bars are weaker. There are more...

    ok, i have a question

I believe there is no such thing as a "chin-safe" harness. Chinchillas have what's considered a "floating rib cage," which makes it's abdomen more fragile compared to other animals. A harness squeezing it's rib cage could damage some kind of internal organ. I think you're right to not harness...

    Wheel

I wouldn't reccomend it, as it is made of plastic which isn't good for your chin if he were to chew it. It would also be too small- most plastic wheels come at 12" largest size, adult chins need a minimum of 15" for natural running movement. I would reccomend the ChinSpin or Flying Saucer, those...

    Cat Furniture for Chin Playtime?

I was just wondering, could you use cat furniture, like the towers and "mansions," for your chin's playtime? Just so that they're not just wandering around, maybe for entertainment? It seems like they could have fun jumping around the levels.... Thanks! xx

    Owner, Breeder, or Admirer?

I voted admirer because I've been spectating and watching these forums for a while, but do not own a chinchilla, sadly :( though I'm adopting one this summer and I'm so excited!

    Hello

Thats great! But with kits under the age of 6 months, you probably want to keep the out of cage time to a minimum. They need that energy to grow rather than play, which they can do by themselves in their cage. I'm sure someone else could say more on the topic, but congrats on the new chin! :)

Is my chin sick? Please help me :/

I'm so sorry for your loss, RIP. Chinchillas do tend to hide their sicknesses well, anyone could have made that mistake and accidentally looked it over.
