    Eye Troubles

Sorry for the delay. For the duration of Ruffle's illness, I haven't shown any symptoms of ringworm. I'm not sure what kind it would be, but I'm not sure it's passable to humans, but don't quote me on that. Maybe one of the vet members here could speak to that better.

    Eye Troubles

If what the vet is prescribing is working well, I'd keep on with that. What I found was, when Ruffle's eye swelled, it was the result of a ringworm infection, and we had her on a regiment of anti-inflammatory (maloxicam), lactase with milk thistle (I think that's right), and tramadol for pain...

    Overly Feisty Chin

So, in Ruffle's playroom, there's a closet that I keep a variety of cleaning supplies. I learned very early on that the clearance underneath that door was high enough to accommodate her. I've taken to covering it with a variety of materials, but she's learned to pull all of them back to gain...

    Eye Troubles

This actually sounds a lot like what I've recently gone through with Ruffle. Is your chinchilla starting to lose fur around the eye?

    Happy Squeaking?

Ruffle does this from time to time when I let her out for playtime. It's usually preceded or followed by her happily running around the room, so I've always just assumed it was her way of giggling and carrying on. Sometimes I try and mimic it, and she comes looking for me.

    What Directed Us?

Personally, I had gotten over some pretty serious migraines that had kept me at home alone for a few months. I was tired of being alone all the time, and coming home to an empty apartment, since my roommate and I work opposite shifts most days. I wanted a pet, but my roommate didn't want...

Chinnie wheels - Which to choose?

I recently got a flying saucer wheel for Ruffle, and she's taken to it quite well. I've read that some chinchillas don't know how to work on them, but they're pretty economical on space, and lets them hop around like they would naturally do.

    Cage Upgrades

So, a lot of stuff I have for Ruffle was either a gift from my parents or bought by myself when we didn't know as much about chinchillas. As such, I'm looking to give Ruffle's cage and accessories an upgrade so that she's more content and hopefully a happier chinchilla. Right now, her water...

    New Chinchilla Problems

Update: It's all over but the culture. Ruffle is doing better, but is still on her regiment of medications and assist feed. At this point, it seems likely that she has a case of ringworm, but we're waiting on a culture just to be sure that it's certain that's what she has. Once it comes back as...

    So Excited!

I just got finished medicating Ruffle this morning, but afterward, I decided I should spend a little more quality time with her since I medicated her a bit early and she seemed pretty awake. So I sat next to her cage, opened the door, and waited, talking to her softly. She was a little timid at...

    Favourite Scritching Place.

Ruffle has yet to fully warm up to me, but I can tempt her with the occasional side-of-the-neck neck scratch. It's too adorable, seeing her tilt her head to the side and close close her eye :hearts:

    New Chinchilla Problems

Well, I had thought we were sufficiently out of the woods. Ruffle was eating on her own, being happy, and coming out to play, and returning to her old self. I decided it would be fine to take her off the anti-inflammatory after a few days of this behavior (after all, it was only supposed to be...

    New Chinchilla Problems

So, I've been trying not to worry, and was able to socialize with my chinchilla little last night. She seemed more or less her old self: curious, exploratory, tried to leap out of her cage more than once. She even tried to leap on to my shoulder at one point, which was reassuring, even if she...

    New Chinchilla Problems

Hi all! I've recently become an owner of a 6 month old grey chinchilla name Ruffle. I've had her almost three weeks now, and I seem to be running into a few problems. Things seemed to be going fine with her for the first week and a half, but things seem to have taken a pretty steep decline...

    Hello!

Hi, I'm Proteus. I'm a new chinchilla owner, a small grey darling named Ruffle. I'm not all that up on chinchilla breeds, but she's a moderately sized (from what I've seen) grey chinchilla of six months (almost seven months). I've been doing my best to take care of her, but I've run into a few...
