I take my chins into the bathroom to play! Its safe and confined... Ill lay down on the floor on my stomach and read and they have to climb all over me! On my head, running up and down my back and legs... They have even gotten so comfortable, they will come and sit on my arms to block my book...

I let mine play in the bathroom! No carpet, no cords to chew on, no places to squeeze behind! Sounds like your hallway is similar, so I say its good! I take the "potty box" in to the bathroom for play time... So they have the scent of that...and a few toys from the cage, so that always helps :-)
