    Rotating Toys

This has been excellent information. I appreciate all of the advice! :D P.S. I didn't even think about rearranging shelves, but I'll do that once every 1-2 months for them (slowly, as Amethyst suggested).

    Rotating Toys

Hello again. I am very excited to get my two chins this Sunday (December 6th). There is still something I haven't stumbled across an answer for. How often should you rotate out/clean toys (pumice stones, blocks, hanging toys, lava bites, etc)? Is this something that should be done daily, two or...

    New Chin Top or Bottom?

If you know that it won't escape then I would think it would be easier just to put it on top. If there is zero risk of falling then, as far as I know, it doesn't matter. That said, if you have any doubts at all about the chinchilla being able to get out then put the baby chinchilla on the bottom.

    New Chin Top or Bottom?

The problem is that Ferret Nation cages have spacing that is too wide for baby chinchillas. They will be able to fit through the bars, and fall (potentially to their death). I would say the baby chinchilla would need to go on the bottom level for that very reason. You'll also need to get...

picked up some new tile for Rain today

I think most people who have tile (myself included) don't have wire floors. I am using the critter nation double cage, and I got a metal pan made from Bass Equipment that my tile went in. I put the tile in, grouted it, and it doesn't move around at all. I have no suggestions for the tile on the...

    My New Chin's New House

Update: Shelly (Fleece for Furries) is making me a double-wide hammock to prevent the chinchillas from falling. She is also throwing in some chewing sticks for them. Hopefully that will be the last thing I need for my cage (for now). :)

    Chin chewing other chin

I found this article that starts off saying: Further down under "Fur Biting" it says: I'm not sure if either of those are what your chinchilla is truly doing, but from what I have read if the skin is punctured you will need to separate them. Otherwise you may need to provide more toys...

    My New Chin's New House

Rick from NOLA Chinchilla Rescue threw them in with the ledges and tunnels he sent me. I'm emailing her now to see if she can do that for me. P.S. I figured out what was wrong with the pictures (why I was the only one who could see them). I uploaded them to Google Photos. There is an option to...

    Wire bottom vs solid

All it would take is one misstep while running to miss the wire and have a broken foot, so I still say that's reason enough not to have a wire cage. Plus, chinchillas don't have wire floor in the wild. They have a variety of surfaces that they walk/run on, but none of them wire. I can't say 100%...

    My New Chin's New House

Yeah, I was wondering about that myself, Amethyst. Do you know anyplace that has larger hammocks (ones that would span the entire cage)? I certainly don't want one of my new chinchillas to fall and hurt (or kill) itself. :\

Let me re-post these, and let me know if you guys can see them now:

    My New Chin's New House

The pictures are in the post two up from yours (post #14). I can see them. Are you not able to see them?

    Wire bottom vs solid

I think the reason for the increased risk from wire flooring is due to the wire itself not being completely smooth (some wire flooring can have very, very tiny jagged spots that are easy for small animals to get lacerations from), and people not keeping the wire floor clean (basically thinking...

    My New Chin's New House

So after a lot of time, money, and effort I have (mostly) assembled my cage and the accessories. I actually removed the middle divider. I saw a lot of people doing that to create more room for climbing/jumping, and (in my opinion) it is better to do that now than to disassemble the cage after it...
