    Water bottle height?

I've read that when mommy chins nurse babies its appropriate to set a baby-height for the bottle as mom shouldnt mind or struggle with the lower height. It's a good question though, I moved my bottle to a stand-on-back-feet height too for my chins.

    Abscess (GRAPHIC IMAGES)

First of all, thats wonderful that you've opted to give your chinchilla every treatment you can afford, :) Both Emeprid and Ranitidine are pro-kinetics that help the chinnies gut to move along and prevent GI stasis. Ranitidine is not purely a pro-kinetic, humans for example take it to counter...

    Abscess (GRAPHIC IMAGES)

He has lost alot of weight, is there any one else who can help with a veterinary surgeon in your area? The idea to let the abscess out is a principle of surgical management for abscesses but the pus may build up in areas where it isn't draining out. Did they determine the primary site of...

    mysteriously dead chinchilla...

Hi, I'm sorry to hear, it's always hard when things happen suddenly. Hope you're holding together well. With the blood from the head the tendency would be to think of a choking incident involving splintering wood (i.e. can happen with bamboo), a tongue laceration perhaps due to a seizure, or...

my birthday gift was a chin! no time to prepare

I agree - "lonely" chins aren't really lonely, no matter how tempting it is, chins can be difficult to introduce and then some never get along unfortunately :( but with patience, a good bond between you and your chin will tell you what is best, give it a few months at least if not a year before...

my birthday gift was a chin! no time to prepare

Hi! I am a new chin owner too (5 months now) and I know what it's like to have alot to prepare for knowledge wise. But a big big congratulations to you first of all :) If you keep us updated here I (we)'ll happily talk to you about what your queries may be, but as you see from Pikaia's post...

    Re: weird behaviors

You could always try less pellets and make sure he has plenty of hay.. in the long run he will adjust and eat more hay - it's also better for the proper usage of his molars and therefore prevent malocclusion. How old is he? If he has stopped growing (18 months and above) you can give him...

    Hurt paw?

How is he today? Do keep out for signs of biting his own paw (look for patches of fur that have come off). Hope he's fine!

    New mom....separation anxiety?

Don't worry :) As long as she has 1. safe environment (nothing to jump into and fracture bones - so probably no outside time for a long while), 2. bed for retreat with perhaps a screen of cloth to hide behind, leave a gap of an inch for ventilation. 3. After a few days of minimal...

Introducing a pair to a lone chin (all same sex)

Is there a barrier to introductions with very young chins <1yr and older chins? like a hierachy of age groups almost? I'm hoping to make an introduction work between a pair of 5 month olds (sisters, very happy together) and a 3 year old female, so far it's the side by side method which is fine...

Hoping my chin gets better. T~T

Hi, how are you? And how is Leo? Sometimes without fractures alot of vital organ damage can still have taken place, your vet was right to administer drugs to lessen the swelling because like skin, bruising occurs in all organs in trauma. It's hard to judge whether the blood is originating from...

    Different size testicles?

It doesn't sound like a normal testicle, and might not be a testicle problem at all, hopefully it isnt a collection of fluid (which would be quite harmless), and worse still we hope it isnt an abscess, but as you said it's quite normal except for size. Ask your vet? Hope your chinny is okay...

Female chin with smelly genital area

Hi! I have a 2 year old Female chinny whose genital area has become noticeably smelly. The hair around the area is stained - a UTI comes to mind but how do I know if its only pee sitting? I've only had her for 2 weeks as i adopted her, so not sure if this is normal for her but she certainly...
