Demi (who's age is unknown because she was a rescue)has been sneezing on and off, lethargic, not eating as much, and has conjunctivitis in one of her eyes.
I scheduled an appointment with a vet tomorrow but this is my first time taking a chinchilla to the vet and I've heard some horror stories...
I've only tried the Kaytee Timothy hay. I've tried haycubes too but those mostly just get shredded and not eaten.
I shop at petsmart and have only noticed the Kaytee brand. I'll have to check out to see if they have orchard grass and the other brands mentioned. Or is that something I need to...
I'm pretty sure I read it on a thread recently that breeders with large herds only free-feed pellets because it is too expensive to feed all of them hay as well. Of course, the pellet would be a good brand like oxbow. Is this viable for pet chinchillas too? Just curious because my chins barely...
I reported that video. It's disgusting that someone would handle a chin like that, especially HITTING one. Also, feeding him a sugary rice crispy treat chunk? Fail.
I wanna start introducing two chins and I heard that you have to make the new cage neutral and scent-clean. I have a ferret nation with the original plastic pans that I cover with fleece liners.
I know of the vinegar cleaning solution used for both hard and cloth surfaces. As well, I've heard...
Figured I'd give an update on the little boy I've been raising. He has successfully moved in with my girl Demi who has been snuggling with him and teaching him the ways of the chinchilla. He is around 110g now and still growing!
LOL Fen does this to Demi all the time. But instead of going through all my sticks (I learned fast hehe), I'll pick up his stick that he dropped and give it to her and it'll go back and forth like that til Demi realizes it's not worth the hassle =P
I'm trying to find a good name from one of Hayao Miyazaki's movies (the guy who created Totoro and Spirited Away). I tend to stay away from people names for some reason. Demi (short for Demiwolf) and Fen (short for Fentusko) are actually named after my fiance and I's world of warcraft characters LOL
Oh ok, I just searched forums for "sleepy ear". Sounds like that's what happened. I guess it was just bad timing with him becoming a little hot but he seems to be doing good right now :) I was scared it was an inner ear infection or something, I'm such a paranoid chin-mom ^.^;
Right before we moved Fen into his brand new ferret nation today I noticed that one ear was pressed flat against his head and felt kinda limp and warm. After getting in the cage and exploring all over the place he drank a bunch of water.
A little later he overheated a bit, both ears were...
