    Chin Fight

I had a father and son pair that were together for years, then separated because of fighting. They each had their own new cagemates, but sadly one passed away. So, after father and son had been apart for four years, we reintroduced them and the third. They've been happily living together again...

HAWS Chinchilla Rescue - Waukesha, Wisconsin

Finally the chins have been surrendered and are now being adopted! Here's the news story. I would have liked to see all of them available for adoption, but this is a start. I attended the information meeting today, it was a toss up. Half the stuff the vet said was good info the other half was...

HAWS Chinchilla Rescue - Waukesha, Wisconsin

Here's the latest update. Charges have finally been filed. Riven, I believe that Wan (Moonlight Chins) and Bobbie both got chins from Tammy when she shut down her operation. I'm sure they would know more about which, if any of your chins made it to Tricia.

Reasoning behind not allowing 24hr dust bath access?

You also don't want them sleeping or sitting in the dust for long periods of time because the more they're in the dust the more chance to inhale it. Too much dust inhaled can cause respiratory distress, and if they've used it as a litter box then possibly infection too.

    Long Wail or Moan

I'd bet that he fell off the ledge while he was sleeping and scared himself. One of my boys sleeps close to the edge of his ledge or on top of his house and will fall off in his sleep. He usually wakes up when he hits the bottom of the cage and squeals a bit. I tried rearranging the ledges so...

    Constipated chinchilla

No raisins or fruit of any kind, ever! They aren't good for chins and especially not sick ones. If he's not back to normal he needs to see a vet. There could be something blocking his intestines, or it could be gas. Either can lead to bloating and stasis.

    Online Hay?

Whimsy's Menagerie is a rescue and they sell hay. Some other good online retailers are Small Pet Select and KMS.

    Bumble foot

Drs Foster & Smith usually have the best deal on the lava ledges, those are a good option too. I think Shelley at Fleece for Furries (on facebook) sells wood perches too.

Do you take apart your entire cage every time you travel?

If you're talking about back and forth for school, I think it would just be easier to have two cages. We had cages for the boys at my mom's house when we lived 4 hours away. They stayed there and were collapsible so we could take them down when we weren't there with the chins. There's no way...

    Crusty Fur?

Does he have a cagemate? I find crusty spots on both of my boys that are caged together quite often. They both think the other one is their girlfriend.

    Supplier who sells Chin pops?

Stacey Wolf! They're a favorite of my boys. Her user name is staceylwolf.

    Farm Hay vs Store Hay?

You want horse hay, not cattle hay. Mostly grass hay like timothy or orchard. I don't mind a little oat or alfalfa and/or clover mixed in. I ask if it's been organically grown, where it's been stored, when it was harvested, and what they are feeding it to or who they're selling it to. You can...

    Success Rate of Pairing

I have 3 boys, Zoidberg, Rufus, and Dale. We started out with just Rufus, then we added Zoidberg and Leela (she was in a separate cage and sadly passed away a few years ago). We didn't know anything about bonding, and Zoid is Rufus's dad, so we just put them together the day they came home...

    FN

I would not keep 3 chins in a single level of an FN. Actually we upgraded to a triple stack to have 2 levels for our 2 boys and then one level for our single cranky old guy. The two boys are much happier in 2 levels than they were in one. Almost immediately they started cutting playtime short to...

Chinchilla one ear down loud shreak

I swear they have nightmares some times, and freak out in their sleep. It sounds like your guy scared himself awake.

How Does your Chinchilla Accept a Treat?

Both! All of my boys will grab a cheerio with their paws, but will eat crushed rosehips out of my hand. Zoid and Rufus will take sticks with their hands, but Dale will only take them by mouth.

    Dog crates

I bought one of the 18 inch ones to use as a travel cage. It seemed fine, I put the boys in it for a few hours a couple days before we left and they hung out and didn't escape. Then we were about 3 hours into our trip and suddenly there was a chinchilla under my gas pedal as I was driving down...

    Lovebird bit my chins foot

It'll wear off eventually, both on your hands and Delilah. If you need to use it in the future, you can spray it on a q-tip or cotton ball and apply it that way.
