Is anything worn down in the cage that he could potentially be catching his whiskers on? I'd run your hand along everything in there just to make sure he's not snagging them on anything rough or sharp.
My chin was a scared nervous wreck and now is a spunky social little fur ball...however he has just never ever liked being held. You can pet him all over but the second you try to snatch him up - he will not have it.
I use to use Aspen but somewhere down the line switched to Carefresh, I don't really remember my reasoning...but I plan to switch back to Aspen just because my chin always tries to eat the Carefresh. I have a grate floor so he can't get to it but if he gets a hold of a stray piece of it when I'm...
Everyone has given a lot of good advice here. Remember, even getting a second chin and saying you will slowly socialize them won't be easy at all. That's going to take a lot of time, effort, and patience. Definitely not something you want to embark on when you are already worried about not...
If you are going to be home less, I don't think getting a second chin would be a good idea. Especially since 2 chins are not guaranteed to get along and you could end up with 2 chins in 2 separate cages. (More to clean, more supplies, separate play times, etc.)
Make sure your chin has lots of...
Ellicottville, New York! I have one chin and my sis has one chin!
Not very common around here - people can't believe that I have a chinchilla as a pet!
My chin sleeps on his side pretty often. When I walk in my room, he'll even pop his head up a little to acknowledge me but continue to lay there like I'm bothering him. When I first got him this made me really nervous like he was paralyzed or something and I started to panic - but it turns out...
My sisters chin didn't seem too excited about the supplement 'treat' either, so they might not be very tasty in general!
Hmm, I've never used them with my chin just because I wasn't sure about them. I'll have to try one out. Thanks! Hopefully he doesn't pee on it...
I had a feeling it maybe had something to do with Oxbow trying to make a product that people felt like they needed...glad I held off. Sorry to my sister who wasted $7 bucks.
My sister and I both feed Oxbow pellets and I've always been under the impression that Oxbow makes good quality products. I figured I would see what other people thought about the vitamins before I started/she continued feeding them to her chin.
My sister came home with a container of Oxbow Multi-Vitamin supplements about a week ago. She asked me if there was any advantage in giving them to her chin. I wasn't really sure what to tell her because I've never seen them before. Does anyone have any information (pros and cons) about them and...
The Oxbow hay that I order often looks like that too. Like others have mentioned, as long as you see no strange discoloration and it smells good, I think you're free to feed! (Feed your chinchilla that is...not yourself. I think it smells so good!)
Welcome!
Greychins said it best, plain is the way to go. I feed my chin Oxbow pellets, timothy hay and occasionally the timothy hay cubes. My chin just thinks apple wood sticks are a treat - he goes nuts for them! Which is great because they're good for his teeth, so he can chew away on as...
I have friends that act the same way. They cannot wrap their [tiny] minds around the fact that I love my little guy. Some people will never understand how great they really are!
My boyfriend has been interacting with my chin for almost a year now and he's still surprised at what a personality...
