    Bi-Polar Chin?

I'm wondering if the "whining" sound your hearing is actually the chinchilla "happy" noise, since it sounds somewhat like a whimper. It confused me the first time I heard it. As for staying under the futon, all of the chinchillas I've ever owned love cave-like spaces. When I sit on my knees...

Not chewing, but holding onto bars with teeth

For Kupo, I'm not sure if he does it for attention, since he does it near the rear corner of the cage. I'm guessing it feels good on his teeth. That good that Zidane doesn't seem to be chewing himself anymore. It's always rewarding to see chins adjust well after bringing them home.

Zidane, nice. :). I was mainly worried that it might be something related to malo, but from what everyone else has posted, it is just chinchilla's being silly. Not chewing, but holding onto bars with teeth

I don't have digital camera, but will certainly post pics of him when I do get one. Kupo doesn't look like he's going to stop doing that anytime soon. Looks like he's taking a nap whe he does it.

Not chewing, but holding onto bars with teeth

At least it seems like it isn't harmful behavior. He really does seem content when he does it. Kupo is a standard grey. I should teach him to balance a red ball on his head. :). Then he'd really look like a moogle.

Not chewing, but holding onto bars with teeth

He scared me the first time I saw him do it. He does seem to be resting, though. I guess that's his little "quirk". :)

Not chewing, but holding onto bars with teeth

Just wondering, does anyone elses chin do this? My chin Kupo will stand up in the corner of the cage and hold onto a horizontal bar with his teeth. He isn't chewing on it, or moving his mouth at all. He kind of just hangs there by his teeth. His front paws are also up on the bars near his face...
