Thinking about adopting one or two chin(s)

Hi, it's me again. I know it's been quite a while (life's been busy) but the wish to get chinchillas isn't dead, yet. I'm still quite torn. I really want chins, but at the same time am so afraid I might not be able to provide them the best environment with our cats. Temperature isn't a problem...

    Flying with a Chinchilla

Valerie, it's been quite a while and I was wondering if you ever came up with an answer/solution?

Tree fell on coop - chin got out - dog killed it ...now what?

I'm trying, but I just can't get a hold of them. They didn't post a phone number and didn't reply to my craigslist-inquiry :(

Tree fell on coop - chin got out - dog killed it ...now what?

So, I came across this craigslist post: https://honolulu.craigslist.org/mau/grd/6142099204.html I'm not yet a chin owner but I've done my reading and everything about this screems "wrong wrong wrong". I don't have the means of taking her in (at least not yet), but there is one lonely neutered...

Thinking about adopting one or two chin(s)

The two males are still at the shelter and I feel soooo sorry for them:cry4: They have big (two-storay) cages, each, but because it's a shelter, they don't get any play-time (as far as I know - and if, not much). They seem to be a little shy and one of the staff (who had had a chin in the past)...

Thinking about adopting one or two chin(s)

And yet another question. Our new apartment will have carpet. I know you mentioned that one should be careful with fleece that they don't pull threads and also that they chew, a lot. But will carpet be a big problem during their free-running time?

    Unfortunately, you can't drive everywhere.

Thinking about adopting one or two chin(s)

One more questions (I'm just thinking out lout really, at this point). Besides overall individual character being a main determent, are there any other differences between males and females? In terms of care? In terms of health issues that can develop (e.g. I keep seeing hair rings being...

Thinking about adopting one or two chin(s)

Again, thank you very much for all your input! I always try to consider everything before making an important decision, so it really helps. Especially when it comes to living being that would end up suffering if your ignorant about their needs. "Unfortunately" it looks like the topic has been...

    Flying with a Chinchilla

Hi, I've been pondering and researching the same question and didn't really find a whole lot of information. As far as I am aware, no airline allows chins in-cabin and not all allow them as checked baggage. But from the very few reports I saw, they seem to do ok'ish when travelling in the cargo...

Thinking about adopting one or two chin(s)

Hm, I thought I had replied, yesterday, but maybe my post got lost. Again, dear Amethyst, thank you very much for all the information! I've been reading through the emergency threads and have to admit, am gotten a little scared. :( 1. the males at the shelter are already neutered. I'm still...

Thinking about adopting one or two chin(s)

Again, thank you very much for all the information and feedback! So I assume males are easier to be solitary as they are natural dispersers, while females - though territorial - may actually bond better? All the males at the shelter are neutered, so that wouldn't be the problem...it's just my...

Thinking about adopting one or two chin(s)

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback! While I certainly feel I have experience with pet keeping (rodents, dogs, cats, fish), I also come more and more to the conclusion that chins really aren't easy. I have to admit, it is a little frightening, but at the same time, everyone had their very...

Thinking about adopting one or two chin(s)

Aloha, I've been pondering the idea of getting chinchillas for a long time, but the time was never really right, until maybe now. Our local humane society has several chins available, two males (neutered), one female and her young offspring (also female). It is tempting, so just out of...
