Need vetrinary and scientific papers on Chin nutrition please!

I recently started volunteering at a very prestigious zoo, working with some of their more common animals that are used for teaching purposes. I discovered last week (to my horror) that evening diet for their 4 chins is pellets (good) raisins (bad) and fresh veggies (horrifying!). I have no...

Eating lots of pellet and not much hay?

I've free fed my 2 chins Oxbow since I got them about 2 years ago. They also have constant access to timothy hay, at least until they pull it out of the hay holder and scatter it across the cage bottom, and then won't eat it because it's been on the cage bottom... So they eat mostly pellets...

*Might* have eaten a small plastic pellet- What to watch for?

So I had my girls out for playtime tonight in the kitchen, and I put down their new timothy hay hut for hiding/snacking. After we were done, I shook out the hut onto the mat and along with the poops I got a bunch of small plastic pellets. I have no idea where they came from, but there were lots...

Help save Andy's pets shop- a rescue only shop where I adopted my Chin girls

Andy's pet shop is amazing. They research their products and only sell safe and approved items. Employees can tell you the right way to care for your pets, and they'll be correct. No mistaken genders, no poorly treated animals, no animals from any breeder or pet mill ever. Even their fish are...

    Limit on wood per day?

Should there be a limit on how many wood chews a chin gets per day? It seems like my girls would just de-bark twigs/sticks/chunks 24/7 if I kept the supply going.

Giving eye drops (and keeping them from hating me)

My girls went in for their first checkup, both have had occasional watery eyes. My vet prescribed ofloxacin drops 3x a day for both eyes for both girls. We're managing to do it, but they hate it, we're having fur slips and they're more suspicious of us. I've only had them a few months and...

Got into the bag of crushed rosehips- what to watch for

:hair: So the bag of crushed rose hips didn't get put back in the container that treats go in, and instead was left on top of their cage on a tile, but overhanging enough that they got it into the cage during the night. When I found it, the bag was open, and rose hip bits are scattered all...

cheap, safe and awesome chin toys?

Like most people we're feeling the economics crush, but I want my girlies to have all the fun they possibly can. What are your ideas for cheap toys that your chins go nuts for?

    Favorite woods

I'm looking to order wood from Ronda, and I'm curious what everyone's chins favorite woods are. Thanks!

Best ways to socialize with chins?

I'm still getting used to my two girls, and after 10 years of owning rats, I have no idea how to socialize with my new furbabies. Essentially I'm looking for ways to encourage them to interact with us, without bribing them with treats. Suggestions and websites to read are appreciated.

    Chinchilla sounds and meanings?

I've looked around and I can't find anything that sounds quite like what one of my girls is doing. Essentially it sounds kind of like the Joker's laugh... Usually it seems to happen when they're in the playpen, often when they're out of sight. I'm hoping it's a content or playful noise, but...

Hot Days + Anxious new owner

I've had my two chin girls for just about a month. I've always been a dedicated rat person, and I was volunteering with North Star Rescue when I met the most sweet, adorable balls of fluff. I'd never been a Chinchilla fan, the ones I'd run into were high strung and people phobic, but these girls...
