I would say - for 2 chinchillas you will need a taller cage. They like to hop around a lot. The cages I have are probably around 4-5 feet tall and I have several shelves in it. Good luck building - you have more talent than me! :)
I shop vac out my cages every day and shake out their fleece and thow out soiled hay. I change their fleece once or twice a week and scrub out/disinfect their cages once a week. Yes they do poop a lot. I also shop vac the floor or sweep the floor every day too. They are messy buggers! :)
My chins are the basement but we have large windows with light shades to let the light in. I hope that is ok. I also have a thermometer/temp gauge next to their cage to monitor the temp.
My Chins don't chew so I have plastic water bottles now but they leak and I've about had it! This thread has been helpful so I'm going to try the lixit I think. I need 3 so I want to make sure what I get is worth the cost.
I bought a soft sided playpen (it says its for a dog)....it's not a WARE but a different brand that is just like it. I LOVE IT! There is room for me to sit in it with the boys when they are playing. My head hits the zip up top by thats ok....granted I'm short too - only 5'4". LOVE IT and...
I found more hair (not a lot) and their litter kicked all over so they are separated again. I bring them out for playtime together in my pop-up play pen, but I'm always there with them and there has been no fighting thus far....but housing them separate for now.
Thank you for the info... I feel better knowing it's normal. The only reason I would want to stop it is because the crusty residue is difficult to get off the fleece, and wooden shelves. If this is normal I won't worry about it. Thank you again!
I have a bonded pair of brothers housed together. About a week a go I found hair all over their cage. One brother, after inspection, had big chucks of fur ripped out and small bite marks. I separated the brothers for a couple days. I trimmed their whiskers down and put them back together and...
I have noticed one of my male chins (housed by himself) will occasionally suck on his penis. I have read that tends to be normal. When they do this can they actually masturbate? Is there a way to stop this? I have found some hard crusty stuff on his fleece pillow, liners and even on the...
I had been using Carefresh for litter in my boys litter boxes. I know it's not ideal but it's been hard to find just regular pine or aspen shavings. At first all I could find was mixed wood shaving and didn't have a list of what kinds of woods. I finally found some pine...put it in their...
