Smidgeyy If you don't already have a chin lined up to buy, I plan to bring a few that are for sale, some of which will be shown and some of which will not be shown.
Christiane I'll be at the Quality in as well with Lynn :-)
Barb do you know who I should talk to if I want to donate a chin...
Hey Everyone,
I know it's early, but I was wondering if there has been a date set for the Atlantic Chapter PA show yet? I'd like to make sure I can block it off on my calendar so I can actually attend!
Thanks!
Cheryl
I've shown numerous a chin with dirty bellies, some more wrapped than others, all from ebony lines though. If the belly is only dirty or muddy and not fully wrapped, they don't do well in the ebony classification. They get knocked for not being completely wrapped....can't win either way!
Cheryl
Ange - Dreamlite is right. According to Barley's pedigree he is a pure standard, but his belly is so wrapped that he showed as an ebony and did very well! lol. I'm currently out of the country but if you search through my facebook photo albums for Barley there are probably photos of his belly up...
Yes I'm talking about diatomaceous earth. I put around 3 tablespoons in a 50lb bag of feed and mix it up so that it covers all the pellets. It gives the feed a bit of a Dusty look to it and the chins just eat like normal.

I know I'm late to jump on this thread, I haven't been online in many months, but I wanted to add my experiences. Back in around June of 2012 I had problems arise in my herd that caused multiple deaths in my chinchillas. At the time I had just decided to switch my feed over and shortly...
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who commented on my behalf!
Laura - Please feel free to ask me any questions you want about my setup, chinchillas, or breeding in general and I'd be happy to answer them, you have my contact information :-)
Cheryl
I've had chins of differing colors have significant weight gains (think 100-200grams) between 1-2years of age in my slower growing lines. Its very typical for them. Like everyone else said though, better to be safe than sorry and keep them in a babyproof cage.
As for whether or not to separate...
I think that would be great! I'm sure it would be a logistical nightmare though :-P But I must say I would love to be able to see all the chinnies from the different parts of the world and possibly enter a few myself into the competition!
Cheryl
What kind of food dishes do we still need for the pot luck? I was thinking of making some sort of dessert, but thought I'd ask if we need anything in specific: drinks, side dishes, etc.
Cheryl
Perfect! Don't worry Jess you can sit for the standards, Crissy will know the ropes by then ;-)
Brandy we usually need help for animal handling during classification
