I recently started volunteering at a very prestigious zoo, working with some of their more common animals that are used for teaching purposes.
I discovered last week (to my horror) that evening diet for their 4 chins is pellets (good) raisins (bad) and fresh veggies (horrifying!).
I have no...
I've free fed my 2 chins Oxbow since I got them about 2 years ago. They also have constant access to timothy hay, at least until they pull it out of the hay holder and scatter it across the cage bottom, and then won't eat it because it's been on the cage bottom...
So they eat mostly pellets...
So I had my girls out for playtime tonight in the kitchen, and I put down their new timothy hay hut for hiding/snacking. After we were done, I shook out the hut onto the mat and along with the poops I got a bunch of small plastic pellets.
I have no idea where they came from, but there were lots...
Andy's pet shop is amazing. They research their products and only sell safe and approved items. Employees can tell you the right way to care for your pets, and they'll be correct. No mistaken genders, no poorly treated animals, no animals from any breeder or pet mill ever. Even their fish are...
I was volunteering at a small animal rescue (I'm a rat person) and there were these ridiculously cute little fuzzbutts.
I hadn't really interacted with chinchillas much, but I started letting them out to play after I was done working with the rats. We had a pair and 3 singles, and the pair were...
Oh yes! They're all for twigs and small chew chunks (that aren't apple) but the larger they get the more their interest wanes. I keep expecting to find the coins dragged down to the litterboxes and peed on...just to show how much they despise them.
I'm pretty sure if I don't get some more pear...
Should there be a limit on how many wood chews a chin gets per day?
It seems like my girls would just de-bark twigs/sticks/chunks 24/7 if I kept the supply going.
I use fleece on the shelves and the top floor (fleece under the edge of the metal sides, then clipped to the pan with binder clips)
and aspen on the bottom level. The way the edges clip on, there isn't a corner for them to get to
To be fair, these girls were in this cage with no siding for 6+...
They also make metal sides that clip onto the plastic pan

I've been using them for a few months and I love them (and they're cheaper than Bass)
I love the idea and the video...when I tried it I ended up covered with scratches and chin hair and I got bitten several times...
So far what's worked best is having someone hold them against their body and then sort of tilt from side to side so we can do drops. They hate it, but it's mostly...
My girls went in for their first checkup, both have had occasional watery eyes.
My vet prescribed ofloxacin drops 3x a day for both eyes for both girls.
We're managing to do it, but they hate it, we're having fur slips and they're more suspicious of us.
I've only had them a few months and...
