My girl is 15 years old!

Yeah, my girl will allow herself to be picked up and cuddled sometimes and is actually very affectionate by chin standards, but everything has to be on her terms. She will NOT tolerate having love forced on her, haha.

    Best/Worst Brand of Dust

I currently use Chill Dust, and really like it. It's very fine, so it sticks to and penetrates her fur really nicely. In the past I've also used the Petco brand, which was perfectly adequate and didn't cause any issues, but it wasn't as fine as Chill Dust. I've heard bad things about Kaytee's...

Should I feed my chinchilla critical care?

It sounds like your girl might just be on the petite side. My chin is a pretty big girl (800+g), but I can feel her ribs. They're not super prominent, but I can still feel them when I scratch her chest or pick her up. Chins can vary quite a bit in size and weight between individuals. She may...

RIP Feeny. Just looking for answers... support.

I am so very sorry for your loss. :( It sounds like you did everything right, you took excellent care of him and got him medical attention as soon as you noticed something was wrong. His passing wasn't your fault, sometimes these things just happen, despite all our best efforts. At 11 years old...

    Chinchilla missing fur on nose

It doesn't look like ringworm to me, although his skin is barely visible, so it's hard to say for sure. It could very well just be that he's rubbing off a bit of fur on the bars. Definitely keep an eye on it, but it doesn't look like anything too concerning, at least to me eyes.

    Sick chinchilla

Definitely sounds like something going on with her teeth and/or mouth. Just because her teeth checked out a few years ago doesn't mean she hasn't developed tooth problems since then. I'd definitely make her an appointment with a vet to have her teeth checked again. Her pawing at her mouth, messy...

    Water bottle and poop

You definitely want a water bottle that's chew-proof. In other words, a glass bottle with stainless steel cap and sipper nozzle. I have two bottles, one on each level of my chin's cage. One is a 6 oz. Lixit brand, and the other is a 12 oz. Living World brand. I like both, I don't think one brand...

    Help with an injury

Most cones (like what they use for dogs and cats) are made from plastic, so I wouldn't feel great about using one on a chin even if it did come in the proper size. She'd probably just chew through it, potentially harming herself in the process. My guess is that she's chewing it because it...

Margaret (grey female, exact age unknown)

This is my chin Margaret. She's probably around 18 months old (possibly getting closer to 2 years now???), though that's just a rough estimate. She was originally purchased from a big box pet shop by someone else, then returned a few days later because she'd apparently bitten someone. The pet...

Please help I don’t know what to do and anxious to talk to vet in the AM

I'm so sorry for your loss. :( He was a beautiful boy and it's obvious you loved him very much. I'm glad that you at least got to be with him in his final moments. He knew he was loved. ❤️

    Safe air fresheners for chins?

I use a heavy glass baking dish, but something ceramic or metal would also work. I fill it with aspen shavings to absorb the urine and change it out daily. Chins will often pick a spot in their cage to pee naturally (usually a corner), so you can try to find the spot where she seems to pee the...

    Safe air fresheners for chins?

It depends on how much she pees on it. My chin is pretty good about peeing in her litter box, so I change her fleece liners once a week, but if your chin is peeing on the fleece a lot, you might need to change it more often, like 2-3 times a week.

Please help I don’t know what to do and anxious to talk to vet in the AM

I can't offer much help in the way of diagnoses or remedies, beyond just keeping him in a cool, air conditioned room, keeping things clean (which you're doing), and making sure that he's eating, drinking, and pooping. I'm glad to hear that he seems to be doing better, though I think it would...
