I have always used bathrooms as a play area for any pets. It gets cleaned before and after they are done playing. I really don't have to worry, all pets have vet checked fine, and some people would see the daily cleaning as over kill. I guess it depends on the health of your pets.

Welcome! I just wanted to say that degus are amazing animals. We were wanting a couple, but they are becoming increasingly harder to find. We decided to go for a chinchilla :) . My oldest degu boy died at the age of 9 1/2 three years ago. I miss him so much..
