Chinchillas are nocturnal, and probably sleep in dark caves during the day in their natural habitat; so I would assume they manage just fine without light.

During playtime, they love to crawl all over me and they don't mind it when I touch or pet them. I have picked them up before, but only when I had to (escapes and such)...They would sit in my hands for only a minute before they would start wiggling...I would really like to hold them more, but...

I'm not trying to use fans to cool down the chinchilla itself, I'm merely trying to keep the room temperature at living conditions...but I'm curious about any possible side-effects, since so many people say not to have a fan blowing directly on a chinchilla.

As summertime approaches, I've been trying all I can to keep my chinchi's cool...The temperature in my/their room has been around 65-75F these past few days. I turned the ceiling fan on a few days ago, which seemed to help keep things regulated....but it feels really warm and humid in my room...

All of these cages look amazing! I'm so jealous! I never did any major changes to mine, but I'm so inspired now! Where did you all get that fleece tunnel that you hang? My chins would ADORE that! :D

I found some vomit (or what I think is vomit) in my chinchilla's food bowl...It was a bunch of sticky, clumped up, partially chewed pellets with some weird vomit looking substance im the middle. They both act normal, and their feces look normal also. I feed them Oxbow plain pellets (no mixes or...

I have the largest Critter Nation cage...So it's on a small stand but I dont think it will really make a difference. My cat used to climb up to the top my mesh/screen door....I doubt that's possible for him to do now (due to the fact that he can barely jump up on the couch...) but putting mesh...
