    VERY dry ears.

Edwyn's ears looked like that, and he never scratched them either. I never thought it was "dry," just how they looked. There weren't any flakes of dry skin in his cage, even when I'd have to use paper towels or other substrates where flaked skin would've shown up easily, so I never worried about...

    Bonded chins won't stop fighting

My condolences for your loss. I hope you can find peace with his passing. I had a similar situation with Zeus and Odin - the first two chinchillas I ever had. They were adopted as babies, both about 6 months old, and got along just fine for a few years. One day Zeus started acting strange and...

Not eating/drinking water.. (stasis?) My very LONG success story!!

Sounds like you did a great job. I had that problem with my chinchila Artemis once, and again with Edwyn. I don't like using Critical Care because I worry about changing their diet suddenly, but sounds like it worked for you, so that's good! What I did for Artemis was to use a mortar and pestle...

    cleaning chinchilla shelves

I used a "mouse" sander - handheld small electric sander - with a very gritty sandpaper and it took less than 15 minutes to do all four shelves, the top of the house, and the leapin ledges in the cages. Definitely worth the investment. At first I was using a finer sandpaper too, but that took...

    ate some paper towels

Anytime my chins appear to be having poop issues, I give them a bit of Petromalt. It's mostly mineral oil so just helps things kinda slide through. You can find it at Petco.

    Loud Silver surfer wheel?

At one point when I had the QC Mansions, I tried putting a 6" x 1" board all the way across the back of the cage and attaching the wheel to that instead of the wire cage itself. It quieted down a little bit (there was never any noise from the wheel, just the cage), but i think with a wire cage...

    Hi I'm draagonfly

Hi folks :) My name is Traci (draagonfly) and I've had chins for 12 years. I've had seven overall and have helped many rescues find homes. I'm down to only two chins now - Edwyn (11 years) and Artemis (5 years). When they're gone I will probably not have any more chinnies as I've had to take...
