    chin with weepy eye

I've been taking one of my chins to the vet over the last 3 weeks for a weepy eye. She's had xrays that show no tooth problems. Metacam for 10 days and now ocufen for just over a week. There's not much change in her condition. I've been searching online and see that ocufen can be painful so not...

Moving kits out of baby cage

Thank you. What you say is pretty much what I have been thinking. Just to confirm, the kit doesn't have any play time. The most she gets is being on my lap and held by me. It's her mum and older sister who get playtime, during which the sister often goes to the kit for sniffs and greetings.

Moving kits out of baby cage

Thanks. Yes I meant putting them all together. Daughter is happy spending time with kit in nursing cage when she's out to play and I'm going to start putting kit in big cage under supervision to get her smell in there. The bar sizes are fine for a kit. I'm just unsure at what age to best put kit...

Moving kits out of baby cage

At what stage is a kit big enough to go into an adult cage? Mum and daughter are pining for each other while mum is nursing current 5 week old kit. When is lit big enough to be in multi level cageif I ensure the flooring is thick with fleece? TIA

    Bonding father and son

I've kept putting the kit in dad's cage and dad in with the kit during playtime and there was no obvious issue. The cage was cleaned out and I put new accessories, beds etc in it. I have a large cage like a critter nation which I've split in half. Put the boys at the top and mum and daughter...

    Bonding father and son

I've reached the time to start weaning my kits. They ate 8 weeks old and with 216g and 230g. having spent a couple of weeks reintroducing dad to sob i thought it would work putting them together. It doesn't appear to be the case. After 6 hours of calm alk Hwk broke loose. Dad wouldn't stop...

    Babies and exercise

Could you advise me please on when I should/could start letting my kits out of their cage? The boy escapes every time I let mum out and the girl is showing signs of being interested. I've seen conflicting advice but the majority seems to be wait for a year. I have read that mum shouldn't come...

Question about housing 3 chins together

Wouldn' the males fight if they can smell the females? SAdly I don't have space for another cage. As it is, I can't work out how to keep mum and dad separate and, when weaning, the kits separate too. The rescue have been very apologetic and offered to neuter all/any of them for me.

    Housing kits

Thanks for your reply. I hadn't realised it would be so long. Yes it is hard to believe but i watched them do it. They really squeezed through quite skilfully! 😂 I've ordered a hamster cage 100x50cm with .7cm spacing to tide them over until i can find something more suitable. At the moment they...

    Housing kits

I discovered yesterday that my 2 week old kits can escape through bars that 1/2 inch wide! I've got them in an old Guinea pig run for now because the bars are too narrow for them to escape through. It takes up all the floor space and is not as practical as a cage. Am wondering at what age they...

Question about housing 3 chins together

I'm not a new chin owner, but I am new to chin kits. A rescue male I've had for 4 years was supposedly castrated, but I bonded him with a female in January who unexpectedly produced kits last week. I think I have a boy and girl but not entirely sure yet. I have yet to work through the many...

URGENT - unexpected birth of 3 kits

Thanks. I've tried to reply to you 3 times but they aren't showing up. They have all settled down, fortunately. At the moment mum is wandering around the room and the kits are sleeping. Am concerned about the runt as it doesn't seem to be doing much. Have tried to give it some goats milk and I...

URGENT - unexpected birth of 3 kits

Thanks for your help. So should I put her back in with the male? I know she may well already be pregnant again, but should I keep them apart in case she's not? When I let them out this evening he kept jumping her. So I put him back in the cage. My cage is a tall 3 level one that's about 6/7...

URGENT - unexpected birth of 3 kits

URGENT please advise me! My rescue chinchilla has just given birth to 3 kits. I wasn't expecting this and so have not prepared. I have out her in an indoor gp cage with her kits to separate her from my male (who has been mounting her). She is going mental in this cage and wants to be with...
