My local PetSmart has Oxbow Chinchilla food again!

I like using kiln dried pine shavings. I am able to get them in huge bags from the local feed store for less than $20. I've used aspen and fleece, but I feel pine has more Oder control.

I've also found Petsmart here and Amazon both are out of oxbow chinchilla food... I hope I don't have to switch foods, but I was able to find one bag at a local store so I have about a 2 month supply before I have to worry.

A word of warning: I almost lost my male due to an infection from him pulling out his stitches. It was a 3 month recovery, which was terrible for him to endure. I highly recommend against spaying and neutering chinchillas without medical cause.

I neutered my previous chinchilla and it was NOT worth it. He almost died due to an infection from chewing his stitches, and they MUST be seperated for at least a month until he heals and it will break the bond. You will have to reintroduce them and they may decide they don't want to be friends...

I used to have that cage. It was a pain to clean and got rusty, but it worked alright as a cage. I was also disappointed that I couldn't do much in the way of decorating and hanging chews!
