Why are pet stores so awful?

No Dawn, that's the low fat version... the one you're thinking of with the kid on the package is also filled with cream cheese with a side of grease fries coated in oily greezy fake cheese with candy sprinkles... I heard they're recommending those for kids with hyper activity disorder, if they get so fat they can't run around anymore, makes it easier for the parents to keep an eye on them.

I have 2 pet stores that I try to supply chins to when I can. They have both been in business for over twenty years and have gotten their chins from regional distributors and hobby breeders in the past. Now they will only buy from me because they love the temperment and quality looking chins they get from me in comparison to what they've got in the past. They listen to me when I tell them to do things different with their cage set up and animal care. They call me when a customer has a question on chins that they can't answer. They both went without chins for over a year after I sold out with my father. They were so excited to recently find out I was back raising again and told me to bring some in as soon as I had some ready. They're good people with good knowledge and their store is clean and they take care of their animals. I've had a couple other stores that did not and I refuse to sell them any. Local Petco used to buy from us, we knew the manager, he loved are animals. He told us he couldn't keep them in store long they always sold quickly and looked so healthy and nice. Then corporate stepped in and said they had to buy from a regional distributor and the manager told us their chins now are skinny, wilder, and not near as nice of quality animals. He realizes the difference but has to do what the company orders. Do your research and evaluate what your buying and where your buying it from.

I bought a chin from a famous award winning rancher, thought I was doing "the right thing", chin came down with malo at 11 months old, had a class 5 heart murmur that after the necropsy turned out to be a defect in the mitral valve, he also had severe allergies. Petco to Ranch, hobby breeder to craigslist, you can get a chin with health issues from anyone not matter HOW much research you do on who you are buying from and where you are buying from, as long at there are those that breed malo chins and heart murmur chins and chins with health issues they will show up everywhere.

I was just at a petsmart today with my brother to get cat food and of course they had the small animals and chins there. We went to look at the poor little chin and another mom and her daughter came up to the cage just as I was complaining about the plastic, how dirty it was, and the terrible hammock that was in the chins cage. The mother and daughter pair immediately walked away after listening to us point out the bad things. I guess we made an impression? ;)
Anyway we walked around the corner to where the little dwarf hamsters were and the food cart for all of the animals was sitting out so I took a quick look at what was on it and it didnt seem too healthy, but nonetheless better than what my local pet store offers for food for their animals.
They were luckily feeding only pelts (couldnt tell what brand) and there was plenty of hay in the chins cage. She just looked a little stressed
