safe wood?

First of all I DID read the FAQs in housing and supplies.

Is balsa wood safe for chinchillas? I know they would destroy it easily if they had a mind to, but is it safe as far as not being on the toxic list? Same questions for basswood: is it safe?

Yes, Balsa is safe. I give it to my chins and they love it, although as you said it does not last long.
