Does anyone know anything about pulmonary edema in cats? My cat Maya went in today for a teeth cleaning this morning and almost died. The vet said almost as soon as they started giving her the anesthesia she went into pulmonary edema and they (obviously) had to stop and they had some trouble stabilizing her after that. She has no idea what caused it, whether it was the anesthesia itself or an underlying cause.

Maya just had a complete work up two weeks ago. It included blood work, urinalysis/culture and full body x-rays and everything was completely normal. She took x-rays today and they have been giving her diuretics (Lasix) and are keeping her until later today to make sure she stays stable. They are going to send the x-rays out to a local radiologist to get a final reading and try to figure out where it came from.

Maya has never had a heart murmur or any other heart issues.
