There's not much happenin on the NorCal coast. The local news is funny... They have reporters stationed at various beaches reporting on the waves they see. They analyze each one "Was that it? Maybe this is it". At any rate they're saying it should be less than a foot which is nothing out of the ordinary.

Of course, the real news story in Japan is horrible and tragic, so I don't mean to make light of that.

That is exactly how I feel. I'm watching the news and everything looks normal. I just heard the wave that hit Japan was 23 feet. WOW!

I think most of our thoughts are indeed with Japan right now. I know here in Monterey Bay life is completely normal, bright sunny weather and there are even some boats out on the water...and my house is just a few blocks from the coast. Hope everyone else on the coast is as safe as we are.

We are a 1/4 mile from the port of Redwood city and the emergency broadcast network put out the phone calls about possible evacuations, me thinks not. Our coast here had damage according to the press, to boats and piers and some of the piers and boats inside the GG bridge got damaged also.

I was just reading some guy in Del Norte county got swept out to sea. He and two buddies thought it would be a good idea to take some pictures. They rescued the friends, but the one guy is still missing. Only CA possible fatality I've heard about so far. I guess we are still on alert until this evening. People are still surfing and boating out there... Stay out of the water people!

I woke up late so I caught the news at about 10:00 am EST. Been watching the videos and they are absolutely horrific.
My thoughts and prayers are going out to everyone in danger of this disaster and of course the families of those who are dead/missing.
Let's just hope that the west coast will not be hit.

Prayers and blessings upon the country of Japan and its people. May God remind our forum members the importance of prayer and giving to those who are suffering here and around the world at this time.

I know one of our families favorite chariy is Samaritans Purse. We are patiently waiting for information to appear on their web page. I know many other respected charities will be available soon. Below I have pasted Sumaritans Purses's mission statement.

MISSION STATEMENT
Samaritan's Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan's Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God's love through His Son, Jesus Christ.

This video shows footage aired on the news in Japan of the tsunami. In the first few seconds, you see a car driving to get away from the water (I hope they made it) then you see the water rushing in, getting faster and higher. It's about 6 minutes long. Its shocking how quickly so many people lost everything. Fortunately the people in this video had higher ground to go to. It kind of puts things in perspective how quickly things happened.

My prayers to the people of Japan and hope that they can recover quickly from such a catastrophe. This is such a horrific event and I would never wish it on even the worse of my enemies.

I've already posted this on the other forums I belong to so I think I should also bring awareness here.

The media focus is usually on human suffering whenever there's a natural disaster. However, animals need our help too. In these times, pets who are normally dependent on human companions for their well-being can be abandoned or lost accidentally. There are organizations who fly help in the form of vets, volunteers and supplies to these areas. They in turn search the streets and rescue these former pets to give them food, shelter and medical attention.

I've already donated to the World Society of the Protection of Animals and will also donate to World Vets. Please consider helping these organizations in their rescue efforts.

Great post Jessican. Animals need help too.

An update from Sumarians Purse.
They were able to load a 747 yesterday with 93 tons of food from the United States to send directly to Japan. Our military in Japan is going to air lift the food up to Sendai. Sumaritan's purse was able to find 5 trucks and two fork lifts In Tokoyo to send to Sendai. Seems there is a huge problem with gas shortages for vehicles. From there the food will be distributed to various shelters in very dire need.

Thank you members for any help to our animal friends and those people in need.
