We recently brought home 2 new furkids, Hannibal (aka Rocket) and Fluffnutter - being as they are different genders, they are housed separately (and will continue to be - before the posse descends upon me!)

The breeder was using glass vacuum bottles with rubber stoppers and glass sipper tubes (Miss Christine of Volunteer Chins fame) and we are trying to transition them over to Lixit bottles that our other chins are using. Hannibal seems to have made the connection when we put a ball-bearing style bottle next to the Lixit and demo'd it for him. Fluff is being a bit more obstinate. Any suggestions on easing the learning curve on this or helping Lady Fluff figure out the 'freaky new style' water bottles?

thanks!

i'd just have both bottles side by side in her cage for a while. keep checking the water level on the lixit bottle to see if she is drinking out of it. she should catch on, but if not, it's not that big a deal to have a rubber stopper/glass sipper bottle, is it?

another thing you can do is rub a raisin on the ball on the spout end of the lixit bottle, to get a little raisin juice on it. the taste of the raisin should get her licking the ball valve and she'll realize that water comes out of it. don't give her the raisin though! :))

already ordering some glass bottles with the rubber stoppers/ sipper tubes - raisin rubbin' is also what Miss C suggested - will give that a shot - thanks!

thanks to both VolunteerChin and ChinnyMom - the raisin juice trick seems to have been the ticket and Fluffnutter is a happy girl :)
