Vet has done extensive exams of my little guy and has concluded it's allergies... but to what I need to figure out...

Thoughts on what could be causing allergies??? Could it be the type of dust I'm using? The type of litter/bedding shavings? What else?

And any suggestions to determining it?

I had three with allergies-Gino was allergic to pollen, he had to be on benedryl in the springtime, Tiki was allergic to pine shavings and Dante was allergic to 1st cut timothy. All had their snot cultured to rule out other respiratory issues.

Interesting... he's not sneezing at all, just has watery eyes once awhile that he likes to scratch at... Should I try ruling things out one-by-one? Or should I see if Benedryl works? If using Benedryl, how much and how often?

Benedryl makes a chin be a blob, last resort drug and the vet RXed the dosage. This chin could not breathe through his nose it was that bad.

Correct. The vet said next time he has to be put under we need a cardiologist and anesthesiologist on hand (which means going to a specialist). The chances of him surviving that are little to none. And with his current state (happy, bright-eyed... occasionally watery but not goopy, eating his Critical Care food willingly 3 times a day, and pooping again) he seems happy and quality of life is good... no pain or anything... still very cuddly and energetic, always ready to play!!! Plus, his weight has finally been steady for the last 2-3 weeks. So with all signs pointing to recovery, I don't want to take that risk until quality of life seems compromised and it's a last ditch effort.

Just thought maybe I should rule out allergies if possible that I could control... type of dust, type of litter/bedding, etc.
